Mid Valley wasted little time taking control Friday night in Throop. Joey Romanosky reached base five times and collected four hits, while the Spartans unleashed a six-run second inning and never looked back, rolling past Crestwood 12-4 to punch their ticket to the District 2 Class 4A championship game.

The District 2 baseball quarterfinals took place on Tuesday, and the semifinal matchups are set across all six classes. 24 teams continue their journey towards a district championship and the state tournament. Here’s a look at how each classification’s semifinals could go.

West Scranton earned a decisive 10-4 victory over Hazleton Area, claiming the District Title. Sophia Deluca had 3 hits, Mia Tallo 3 RBIs. They advance to play Williamsport.

Warrior Run edged out Montoursville in a tight playoff matchup on Thursday, securing a 5-4 victory in a neutral site game. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams collecting six hits, though Montoursville played a clean game with no errors compared to Warrior Run\'s one.

The Freedom Patriots defeated the Parkland Trojans in a decisive home conference game on Thursday, with a final score of 10-0. The Patriots\' offense exploded in the middle innings, securing the victory in five innings.

The afternoon kept stretching in the Back Mountain and nobody was leaving. Inning after inning, Dunmore and Lake-Lehman kept answering each other in a District 2 Class 3A semifinal that simply refused to end. Nineteen innings. Thirty-two combined hits. Three pitchers on each side. Nearly three full baseball games later, the Bucks finally found the run that survived in what appears to be the longest PIAA playoff baseball game ever played.

Scranton Prep edged Abington Heights 15-14 for the 2A District championship. Mackey Lynett (6 goals) and Brahman Pallia (3 goals, 4 assists) led their teams.

Seven innings weren’t enough to tell the story until the final swings. Forest City carried a one-run lead into the bottom of the seventh and was three outs away from punching its ticket, but Susquehanna Community had one final answer. Gabe Maby delivered the biggest hit of the afternoon, ripping a walk-off two-run single as the Sabers stunned the Foresters 5-4 and earned a date with MMI Prep for the District 2 Class A championship on Tuesday.

The first round of the District 2 Softball Playoffs has concluded, with the semifinal matchups now set. The quarterfinal round featured plenty of exciting games and set the stage for more.
