I have spent thirty years around distance running, but this year's District 2 senior boys class is historic. These eight elite runners collected thirty-eight state trips, eighteen state medals, and sixty-four district medals. They rewrote the regional record books by relentlessly pushing each other to legendary heights.

History was waiting for the Blue Knights, and they seized it. Wyoming Seminary combined patience at the plate, aggressive baserunning and timely pitching to overwhelm Elk Lake 21-4 Friday, securing the program’s first-ever District 2 Class 2A championship and punching its ticket to the PIAA Tournament.

Montrose broke things open in a hurry Friday afternoon. After building a lead early, the Meteors unleashed a six-run third inning and never looked back, punching their ticket to the District 2 Class 2A championship game with an 11-1 semifinal victory over Elk Lake.

A quick response turned into complete control Tuesday night. After Blue Ridge landed the opening jab, Elk Lake answered with six runs in the first inning and never looked back as Celeste Clark powered the offense with an inside-the-park grand slam and four RBIs. Now the Lady Warriors turn their attention to a much bigger challenge ahead, a District 2 Class 2A semifinal showdown with top-seeded Montrose on Thursday.

Sunshine, fast times, district records, and unforgettable performances took over Scranton Memorial Stadium as the PIAA District 2 Championships delivered two electric days of track and field action. From Wilkes-Barre Area’s record-breaking relay to Olivia Thomas announcing herself as a statewide star, District 2’s biggest stage was loaded with moments that turned heads across Pennsylvania.

Lackawanna Trail edged Elk Lake 9-8 in a close baseball game, with the Lions winning on a wild pitch in the seventh. Elk Lake's Brayden Miller struck out 10 batters.

Elk Lake Warriors defeated Carbondale Area 7-6 in a thriller. Cohen Orlandini delivered the winning run in the final inning, following Colby Ruarks 3-RBI day.

Warriors win a 9-5 slugfest over Meteors! Elk Lake's bats came alive, led by Brayden Miller's big day at the plate & on the mound, securing the victory.

Six total hits. That’s it. One pitcher owned the afternoon and never gave Elk Lake a real look. Cooper Lukasavage didn’t just deal… he shut the door completely.

Elk Lake used a strong second quarter and balanced scoring effort to earn a 57–42 win over Northeast Bradford on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in boys’ basketball action during the 2025–2026 season.

The “Single A” boys’ race was the highlight of the day, showcasing District 2’s best as Elk Lake stormed to a state championship and Riverside claimed silver. Led by Kendle Jones’ blazing 16:05 runner-up finish, Elk Lake’s top trio set the tone early, while sophomore Trevor Upright and senior Whalen Kinney sealed the title with clutch second-half surges. Riverside countered with tight pack running from Mikey Schimelfenig and the Connor brothers to secure second place. District 2 shined across the board with standout medal runs from Susquehanna’s Maxx Kelly, Lackawanna Trail’s Avery Ronchi, and solid performances from Lakeland and Blue Ridge to cap an unforgettable day for the region.

The state’s biggest stage brought out the best in District 2’s top girls cross country teams and runners. Abington Heights senior Anna Pucilowski blazed her way to an 18th-place state medal, while Crestwood’s Katie Kozich and Delaware Valley’s Grace Holderith followed close behind with top-25 finishes. Elk Lake’s young core impressed in “Single A,” finishing just 41 points out of first with standout sophomore Kendyl Weisgold earning a 9th-place medal. Montrose, Wallenpaupack, and Valley View added strong team efforts in a day that showcased the depth, talent, and future promise of girls distance running across Northeast Pennsylvania.

Elk Lake came out swinging, but it was Old Forge who came out on top—and now they’re headed to the district championship.

Mary Lombardi’s four-hit game and Anne Carter’s 11 strikeouts helped Holy Redeemer erase an early deficit and secure an 8-4 postseason win over Elk Lake.
