Holman Goes Even-Par to Capture Inaugural Scott Greens JV Tournament

West Scranton’s Jake Holman fired an even-par 34 to claim the overall championship as 57 golfers representing 10 area high schools competed in the first annual Scott Greens Golf Club Junior Varsity Tournament on Saturday in Scott Township.
A new event on the local golf calendar brought together some of the area’s rising young players Saturday afternoon at Scott Greens Golf Club.
The first annual Scott Greens Junior Varsity Tournament featured 57 golfers from 10 high schools, giving seventh- and eighth-grade players another opportunity to compete against their peers in a tournament setting.
And it was West Scranton’s Jake Holman who set the pace.
Holman played the red tees at even par, carding a 34 to capture the inaugural overall championship.
Behind him, a trio of golfers finished at 36, with placement decided by a match of cards. Abington Heights’ Bradley Timms earned second place, Kason Minella took third and Elk Lake’s Trenton Miller finished fourth.
Valley View’s Jackson Bradley rounded out the top five with a 38, while Abington Heights’ Gino Angelicola finished sixth after shooting 39.
The battle for seventh went to another match of cards after three players posted 41s. Riverside’s Nick Posluszny earned the spot ahead of Montrose’s Silas Mooney and Lackawanna Trail’s Hunter Woodward.

Laubach Leads Seventh-Grade Boys
Lackawanna Trail’s Cayden Laubach turned in the top seventh-grade boys round, shooting a 37 to take first place.
Elk Lake’s Carter Kelly secured second on a match of cards, while Mid Valley teammates Charlie Jackson and Max Morano finished third and fourth with rounds of 42 and 43.
Elk Lake’s Brant Shalata also shot 43, finishing tied for fourth.
7th Grade Boys

Poepperling Tops Girls Division
On the girls side, Wyoming Seminary’s Penny Poepperling posted the low round with a 46 to capture the girls championship.
Montrose’s Abigail Keenan followed in second with a 54, while Abington Heights’ Mila DeMeck shot 56 for third. Elk Lake’s Dakota Slody finished fourth with a 57.

With nearly 60 golfers representing 10 different programs, the inaugural tournament added another competitive opportunity for a rapidly growing group of young golfers throughout the area.
For Scott Greens Golf Club, year one provided a strong starting point — and for players like Holman, Laubach and Poepperling, an opportunity to become the first names atop the event’s record book.
