Misericordia University’s Homecoming Weekend brought plenty of energy to Mangelsdorf Field on Saturday, but both Cougar soccer teams came away on the wrong side of the scoreboard. The women’s team battled nationally ranked Messiah throughout the afternoon before falling 1-0, while the men’s squad faced a strong Lycoming attack and suffered a 4-0 setback in front of the Homecoming crowd.

For Lake Lehman junior Kinley Purdy, sports have always been about more than statistics, championships and individual accomplishments. They’re about playing with friends, competing with teammates and, most importantly, having fun.

At 3 years old, Ava LeMay was already chasing a soccer ball. More than a decade later, that little girl who fell in love with the game is now a Division I commit, a club captain, an honors student and one of the newest members of Loyola University Maryland’s 2028 recruiting class.

Over 75 young athletes took the turf at John Henzes Veterans Memorial Stadium for four incredible days of skill-building, teamwork, and mentorship at the annual Cougar Soccer Camp. Led by head coaches Brad Decker and Paul Sotak, high school player-counselors from both the boys and girls programs, and local fitness trainers, the week highlighted a deep-rooted tradition of inspiring the next generation of Valley View soccer.

Spain needed extra time to separate itself from Argentina, securing a dramatic 1-0 victory Sunday to lift the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy as thousands of fans packed Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton to celebrate the beautiful game. From live music and family activities to passionate supporters representing nations from around the globe, the PA World Cup Fan Zone transformed the Electric City into one of Pennsylvania’s premier World Cup destinations.

Chipego’s athletic career has been anything but one-dimensional. Early in high school, she balanced multiple sports, competing in field hockey and basketball before making the decision to step away from both after her sophomore year. Her junior and senior years saw her return to the soccer field, adding another layer to her already impressive athletic résumé.

On the court at Wyoming Seminary, Ella continues to make history. She recently scored her 1,000th career point against Holy Redeemer—an especially meaningful milestone, as it marked the first time in program history that Sem defeated Holy Redeemer.
