The Lackawanna League announced its 2024 girls basketball All-Stars, with Jenna Hillebrand (Scranton Prep) named Player of the Year and Claire McGrath (Scranton Prep) earning Defensive Player of the Year. The NEPA football community united on March 15 at Riverfront Sports for the second annual Camp for a Cause, honoring Sonny Crotti and supporting two young athletes battling cancer, Sebastian Trotta and Gio Lucido. Organized by Coach Ryan Runco and Joe Crotti, the camp featured top local coaches along with many area standout high school players. More than just football training, the event emphasized brotherhood, resilience, and giving back, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Sebastian and Gio. Sonnys legacy continues to inspire young athletes to work hard and support one another.
March 15, 2025 – Riverside’s impressive season came to an end in the Elite 8 as they fell to West Catholic, 55-41. Despite a hard-fought effort, Riverside couldn’t overcome West Catholic’s balanced scoring and strong defensive play.
The victory was the final stage of hard work throughout the season, where Wilkes-Barre showed their ability to rise to the occasion in big moments. Despite the ups and downs, the team never wavered, finishing their campaign with a strong sense of accomplishment.
Anthracite FC Clinches EDP Spring Kickoff Championship Anthracite FC 2010B AFC Bayern dominated at the EDP Spring Kickoff, securing the championship with a commanding 3-0 victory in their final match. Tied with HEX FC Dominion heading into the last game, AFC delivered under pressure, finishing unbeaten with 2 wins and 1 draw. Their balanced attack and rock-solid defense proved the difference, setting the tone for a promising season ahead.
However, it was in the postseason that Jozshua Miner truly elevated his game to All-State levels. In each playoff game, he showed up in big moments, putting the team on his back when the stakes were highest. His performances in the playoffs have been nothing short of legendary. But that wasn’t an isolated incident. In their previous playoff win over York Catholic, Jozshua put up 34 points, showcasing his ability to carry the team through tough situations and keep the momentum going for the Rangers. His back-to-back performances of 41 points and 34 points in critical playoff games demonstrate why he is an All-State caliber player.
BETHLEHEM, PA — The Holy Cross Crusaders are marching on. Behind their fast-paced offense, balanced scoring attack, and a historic milestone from senior Matt Lyons, they secured a 63-52 victory over Lancaster Mennonite in the PIAA Class 2A state quarterfinals on Saturday night, punching their ticket to the Final Four.
March 15, 2025 – Crestwood’s magical postseason run continues as they punched their ticket to the PIAA 5A Final Four with a hard-fought 54-47 victory over Strath Haven. A dominant third-quarter surge proved to be the difference, helping Crestwood pull away and withstand a late push from Strath Haven.
Scranton Prep’s season came to a tough end Saturday night as the Classics fell to Neumann-Goretti, 59-48, in the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals. Despite trailing by just one point entering the fourth quarter, Prep couldn’t hold off a 10-0 run by the Saints, who pulled away late to secure the win.
Valley View is moving on to the PIAA 4A boys’ basketball semifinals after a hard-fought 53-46 victory over Shamokin on Friday night. With the win, the Cougars (23-5) advance to the Final Four, where they will face the winner of the Bishop Shanahan vs. Devon Prep quarterfinal matchup.
Bethlehem, PA – March 14, 2025 – The Hazleton Area Lady Cougars saw their PIAA championship hopes come to an end Friday night after a tough 63-50 loss to Perkiomen Valley in the quarterfinals. Despite a strong fourth-quarter push, Hazleton could not recover from a difficult second quarter that allowed Perkiomen Valley to take control of the game.
March 14, 2025 – Mountain View is heading to the PIAA 2A Final Four after a dominant defensive performance led to a 32-14 victory over Williams Valley in the quarterfinals. The Eagles controlled the game on both ends of the floor, using a stifling defense to hold their opponent to just five total field goals and a scoreless third quarter.
Loyalsock Township’s dominant third-quarter surge proved too much for Dunmore, as the Lancers ran away with a decisive 60-36 victory in Round 3 of the PIAA playoffs. Led by Lacey Kriebel’s 24 points and a relentless defensive effort, Loyalsock overwhelmed the Bucks, setting the stage for their next challenge in the state tournament.
Hazleton Area secured a hard-fought 60-54 victory over Conestoga in the PIAA 6A state tournaments second round at Bethlehem Freedom High School. Yohansal Moran led the Cougars with 19 points, including a clutch three-pointer, while Luis Guzman added 18 to power the offense. Despite Conestogas Shane O’Brien sinking five threes en route to a game-high 24 points, Hazleton controlled the paint and held off a late rally. With the win, the Cougars move on to face District 12s No. 2 seed, Father Judge, in the state quarterfinals.
