SportzWire Big School Top 10 – District 2, Week 7 Rankings Breakdown
As we head into Week 7 of the high school football season, there have been some notable shakeups in SportzWire’s Big School Top 10 rankings Powered by Coach Howanitz’s, these rankings reflect the performance of top District 2 schools, with significant movement at the middle and bottom of the table. Here’s a breakdown of this week’s key changes:
1. Valley View (No Change)
Valley View remains the top team in the rankings, solidifying their dominance with another impressive win in Week 6. They continue to lead the pack as the team to beat. Their 34-21victory ovwe Wilkes-Barre Area showcased their defensive strength and offensive power, keeping them firmly in the number one spot. With their upcoming game against North Pocono, they’ll be looking to extend their unbeaten run.
2. Dallas (Up 2)
Dallas makes a jump to the No. 2 spot after their commanding 45-28 victory over North Pocono. The Mountaineers’ offensive firepower proved too much for their opponents, moving them up from fourth place. With the team hitting their stride, they look to maintain this momentum in Week 7 as they face off against Pittston Area.
3. Delaware Valley (Up 2)
Delaware Valley also climbs two spots to No. 3 following their thrilling 35-28 win against Abington Heights. The Warriors demonstrated resilience and an ability to perform under pressure, a quality that will be essential as they look to keep climbing the rankings. Their Week 7 matchup against Long Island Lutheran will be a significant test.
4. Abington Heights (Down 1)
Abington Heights slips one spot to No. 4 after their close loss to Delaware Valley. It was a hard-fought game, but the Comets will need to bounce back quickly as they prepare to face Scranton Prep in Week 7. Their ranking may drop further if they cannot right the ship against another tough opponent.
5. Hazleton (Up 5)
The biggest mover this week is Hazleton, jumping five places from No. 10 to No. 5. Hazleton’s defense was stellar in their dominant 26-0 shutout of Wilkes-Barre Area, showing they can compete with the best in the district. They have another tough challenge ahead as they take on Crestwood next, a team looking to make their mark in the rankings.
6. Scranton (Down 4)
Scranton experienced the biggest drop this week, falling from No. 2 to No. 6 after their loss to Valley View. Scranton couldn’t match Valley View’s intensity and will need to rebound if they want to stay in the top half of the rankings. Their upcoming game against Wallenpaupack is crucial for them to regain their footing.
7. Wallenpaupack (No Change)
Wallenpaupack holds steady at No. 7 after a loss to Scranton Prep (42-13). With their offense clicking, they will be a dangerous team moving forward, especially as they look to upset Scranton in Week 7. A win here could propel them further up the rankings.
8. Crestwood (No Change)
Crestwood remains at No. 8 despite securing a narrow 21-14 victory over Pittston Area. Although they secured the win, Crestwood will need to put together a more convincing performance against Hazleton in Week 7 to climb higher in the rankings.
9. North Pocono (Down 1)
North Pocono drops one spot to No. 9 after their 45-28 loss to Dallas. While they showed glimpses of potential, it wasn’t enough to overcome Dallas’ potent offense. North Pocono faces an uphill battle in Week 7 as they go head-to-head with top-ranked Valley View, which could make or break their season.
10. Wilkes-Barre Area (Down 4)
Rounding out the Top 10 is Wilkes-Barre Area, falling four places after back-to-back losses, including a 26-0 defeat at the hands of Hazleton. Their defense struggled to contain Hazleton’s offense, and they’ll need to regroup quickly as they prepare for Pittston Area in Week 7.
