The Dunmore native started 27 games this past season, averaging 8.4 points and leading the nation in three-point shooting early in the year with 37 triples. Her departure marks the fifth for the Lady Lions this offseason, as Murray looks to make her mark with a new program after a standout career in the Big Ten.

Loyalsock Township’s dominant third-quarter surge proved too much for Dunmore, as the Lancers ran away with a decisive 60-36 victory in Round 3 of the PIAA playoffs. Led by Lacey Kriebel’s 24 points and a relentless defensive effort, Loyalsock overwhelmed the Bucks, setting the stage for their next challenge in the state tournament.

What stood out in this game was Marian Catholic’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc. The team hit 10 three-pointers on the night, providing a significant boost to their offensive attack. Maya Jenkins etched her name into Scranton Prep history on Saturday, scoring her 1,000th career point in a dominant 56-34 win over Delone Catholic in the PIAA Class 4A first round. The senior guard reached the milestone in the fourth quarter, capping off a stellar performance that helped the Classics (24-1) advance to the next round. Scranton Prep’s defense fueled the victory, holding Delone Catholic to just four second-quarter points while Bella Dennebaum led the scoring effort with 14. Up next, the Classics face Allentown Central Catholic with a trip to the state quarterfinals on the line.

The SCSP Varsity Lady Crusaders battled their way to a 27-22 victory over St. Joseph’s (Harrisburg) in a defensive showdown at the CYO State Championships. Led by M. Flynn’s 11 points and key defensive stops, SCSP held their opponent to just seven first-half points and iced the game at the free-throw line. With the win, they advance to the state semifinals tomorrow at 4:30 PM against Mother of Mercy Academy (Pittsburgh), one step closer to the championship.

The 2024-2025 Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) Division 2 Girls Coaches’ All-Stars list highlights the league’s best, with Ella Wilson (Lake-Lehman) earning MVP honors after a dominant season, racking up 396 points and leading her team to success. Ella Stambaugh (Wyoming Seminary) was named Player of the Year, lighting up the scoreboard with an impressive 515 points, while Coach Charlie Lavan (Lake-Lehman) took home Coach of the Year honors for his leadership. Joining them on the First-Team All-Stars are top performers like Bella Boylan (Holy Redeemer), Kate Reed (Nanticoke), and Kinley Purdy (Lake-Lehman), each making a major impact for their teams. Meanwhile, McKenzie Chirnock (Holy Redeemer), Kathryn Morgan (Lake-Lehman), and Lourianna Alston (Tunkhannock) headline the Second-Team selections, showcasing the depth of talent in the WVC. After MMI took the lead on a buzzer beating three pointer, Susquehanna head coach Jeff Baldwin sat his team down. “I told them you gotta really work hard, you gotta work this next quarter to win this, they aren’t going away.” The Lady Sabers got six straight points from Lauren Huyck to build a five point lead and held on to defeat MMI Prep to win the District 2 Single-A Championship 37-34. Huyck scored a game high 17 points and Kiera Burke added 10 for the District Champions.

Scranton Prep wins 4A Girls District 2 Championship in Convincing Fashion When Valley View cut the lead down to eight in the third quarter, Scranton Prep needed to right the ship. Maya Jenkins got a three point play to stop the run and Jenna Hillebrand got a basket before the end of the quarter and pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 62-36 victory over Valley View to win another District 2 4A Championship. Jenna Hillebrand had a game high 21 points and Maya Jenkins added 15 points. Even though the game was close in the third Classics head coach Bob Beviglia knew his team wouldn’t be denied. “I thought when we are able to get out and run. That’s when we are at our best. When we were able to get out in transition and outnumbered situations. That was the difference in the game.”

This game marked the last for two key seniors, #14 Shamonie Rose and #11 Jaidyn Kotch. Their leadership and commitment over the years were evident as they gave it their all in the final moments of their collegiate careers.

Crestwood needed a full team effort on Saturday afternoon if they were to advance to the District Finals. Charlie Hiller had a game high 18 points and Jackie Gallagher added 14 points to get the 56-39 victory over Abington Heights to advance to the District 2 5A Finals. “We came in with a lot of confidence, came out with a bunch of energy and we came out as a team and we performed as best as we could for all four quarters.” Said Hiller. “Credit to the girls. They worked all week and they couldn’t have executed our plan any better.” Said Crestwood head coach Mary Mushock-Namey.

PITTSTON TWP. — A dominant second quarter propelled No. 2 seed Pittston Area past Berwick, 53-31, in the district quarterfinals on Wednesday night. The Patriots, who held just a one-point lead after the first quarter, erupted for 23 points in the second to create a comfortable cushion that Berwick never recovered from.

When the lights were the brightest, Maggie Coleman delivered a performance for the ages. The Abington Heights senior put on a shooting clinic, pouring in 40 points and sinking an unbelievable 12 three-pointers to lead the Comets to a convincing 63-30 playoff victory over North Pocono on Wednesday night.

Despite a brave effort, the lady lions struggled to find their rhythm, particularly on the offensive end, as York dominated throughout the game. With only two games remaining in the season, Wilkes-Barre may no longer have any hopes of reaching playoffs. The pressure is on for these final matchups, but will it be enough to bounce back strong and overcome the current two game skid?

When the first quarter came to an end, it looked like me it was going to be a possible upset for Crestwood. Hazleton Area slammed the door on the upset by only allowing six total points in the second quarter. They led 40-24 at halftime en route to a 63-51 victory to win their second consecutive Wyoming Valley Conference Championship over Crestwood. Alexis Reimold had a game high 22 points and Kaitlyn Bindas added 15 for Hazleton Area.

Hazleton Area has proven themselves as the top team in District 2 for the 2024-2025 season. Sophia Benyo had a game high 21 points and Kaitlyn Bindas added 20 as the Lady Cougars advanced to the WVC Championship with a 75-46 victory over Holy Redeemer. Hazleton Area is looking to repeat as WVC Champions.
