Basketball has always been part of Kaitlyn’s life. She’s been playing for as long as she can remember—“maybe since I was six years old,” she says. While she once played softball in little league, basketball quickly became her passion. “I just love the excitement of it, seeing my parents. I just love everything about it,” Bindas shared. “I like the fast pace of the game.” That love for the game has fueled her rise into one of the area’s top players.

Track is Her True Passion Though Sofia is involved in multiple sports, track has captured her heart. “Track is not all about placing and winning medals,” she explains. “It is about dedication, pushing my limits, competing, and most of all having fun and trying to beat my own times.” Her passion for the sport emerged during her 7th-grade year, when she made the difficult choice to step away from soccer — a sport she had played all her life — to focus on running.

Travel is logistically difficult and financially taxing — with the nearest team at least an hour away, and others as far as four or more hours. Equipment is also expensive: a good sports wheelchair can cost anywhere from $4,000 to $8,000. Ana credits the Kelly Brush Foundation with helping to cover the cost of her own chair. But what perhaps weighs heaviest is the emotional toll — the journey of adjusting to a new body, a new identity, and a world that still often lacks accessibility and awareness.

The Hazleton Area Lady Cougars delivered a defensive masterclass on Tuesday, overpowering Scranton Prep with a 31-22 victory. The Lady Cougars’ relentless pressure and interior dominance ensured they controlled the game from start to finish.

However, Molly’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. Heading into her junior year, she suffered a devastating torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus during AAU play.

The Classics Girls Basketball Camp is set to return this summer, running July 21–24 at the Xavier Center on the campus of Scranton Prep. Open to girls entering grades 4 through 8, the camp runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and offers a blend of individual instruction and team-oriented play.

The 2025 Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Girls Basketball Teams were officially released Thursday afternoon, and District 2 made a powerful statement, with nine standout athletes and one notable alum receiving statewide honors across multiple PIAA classifications.

Penn State guard Moriah Murray has officially entered the transfer portal after three impressive seasons in Happy Valley. The Dunmore native started 27 games this past season, averaging 8.4 points and leading the nation in three-point shooting early in the year with 37 triples. Her departure marks the fifth for the Lady Lions this offseason, as Murray looks to make her mark with a new program after a standout career in the Big Ten.

Loyalsock Township’s dominant third-quarter surge proved too much for Dunmore, as the Lancers ran away with a decisive 60-36 victory in Round 3 of the PIAA playoffs. Led by Lacey Kriebel’s 24 points and a relentless defensive effort, Loyalsock overwhelmed the Bucks, setting the stage for their next challenge in the state tournament.

What stood out in this game was Marian Catholic’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc. The team hit 10 three-pointers on the night, providing a significant boost to their offensive attack. Elk Lake struggled to match that perimeter shooting, and despite a game-high 23 points from Leah Traver, the team couldn’t keep up with Marian Catholic’s balanced scoring.
