Pennsylvania high school football excellence has a long memory and once again, District 2 talent is etched into it. Six local standouts have earned Mini Maxwell recognition, placing them among the state’s elite and one step closer to football immortality.

Wyoming Area boys basketball has started the 2025–26 season with a statement, rolling to a 6–0 record through mid-December and asserting itself early in the Wyoming Valley Conference.

Two Pennsylvania boys made good. Two captains who climbed, fought, and gave back every step of the way. When Penn State storms into Yankee Stadium on December 27th for the Pinstripe Bowl, Dominic DeLuca and Nick Dawkins won’t just be representing the Nittany Lions. They’ll be representing home.

Delaware Valley took care of business to finish with a .500 record and secure the No. 3 seed in the District 2 5A playoffs. Devin Estevez and Mike Iuzzolino both ran for two touchdowns, and Warriors Quarterback Colin McGarvey had one passing and one rushing touchdown.

Crestwood captured the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 championship with a 2–1 comeback victory over Wyoming Area on Saturday at Wilkes-Barre Area’s Wolfpack Stadium. Wyoming Area struck first late in the second quarter when Lucia Campenni scored off an assist from Juliana Siani, giving the Warriors a 1–0 halftime advantage.

The latest District 2 Coaches Poll has taken shape, and with the postseason fast approaching, the top five teams are beginning to separate themselves — setting up what could be one of the most competitive playoff stretches in recent memory.

For the first time in 16 years, Wyoming Area will be represented at the state level in golf. Junior Aiden August earned his spot in the PIAA Individual Championships after shooting a 2-over-par 73 at the District 2 Class 2A Boys Golf Championships.

Berwick stayed unbeaten in dominant fashion, pulling away for a 35-13 win over Wyoming Area in a clash of two teams that entered Friday night without a loss. The Bulldogs improved to 6-0, while the Warriors slipped to 5-1.

Wyoming Area kept its perfect season alive with a 2–1 win over Holy Redeemer on Wednesday afternoon at the Luzerne County Sports Complex. Junior forward Ava Musinski continued her strong run of form, scoring both goals for the Warriors. Redeemer answered in the second half when Elyse Kunec buried the equalizer, but Musinski struck again to give Wyoming Area the edge they needed.

Berwick holds on to the top spot in the District 2 Small School Top 10, edging out Wyoming Area by just two points. Lackawanna Trail climbs into third, Scranton Prep surges into the top five, and Mid Valley makes one of the week’s biggest gains as the middle of the rankings tighten up.

Rivalry games always carry weight, but when it’s a rematch of last year’s district championship, the intensity only grows. On Monday night, Wyoming Area and Lake-Lehman squared off once again, and the Warriors came away with a 2–0 victory.

Wyoming Area dominated from start to finish in a 5-1 road win at Nanticoke, outshooting the hosts 25-1 and spreading the scoring across multiple players. Jules Potter struck twice while Ava Musinski, Sofia Menta, and Alana Zdaniewicz each added goals to seal the decisive win.

Valley View powered past Wyoming Area 5-2 behind a hat trick from Jagger Roe and two goals from Braden Loff, while Jacob Cobb and Ben Rogish scored for the Warriors in the second-half rally.
