DALLAS — The No. 2 seed Dallas Mountaineers punched their ticket to the PIAA District 2 Class 5A semifinals Wednesday night with a commanding 45-22 win over No. 7 Wallenpaupack.

West Scranton picked up a 53 to 44 Lackawanna Division I victory over Wallenpaupack on Saturday night, highlighted by a milestone moment from senior guard Nate Schimelfenig, who scored the 1,000th point of his career early in the first quarter and finished with a game high 18 points.

Wallenpaupack standout Emma Ey has taken a major step onto the national stage, earning selection to the 2026 U16 USA Women’s National Field Hockey Team. The rising sophomore’s journey from local fields to national team training camps reflects years of dedication, elite production, and a deep love for the game that continues to open doors at the highest levels of competition.

The “Single A” boys’ race was the highlight of the day, showcasing District 2’s best as Elk Lake stormed to a state championship and Riverside claimed silver. Led by Kendle Jones’ blazing 16:05 runner-up finish, Elk Lake’s top trio set the tone early, while sophomore Trevor Upright and senior Whalen Kinney sealed the title with clutch second-half surges. Riverside countered with tight pack running from Mikey Schimelfenig and the Connor brothers to secure second place. District 2 shined across the board with standout medal runs from Susquehanna’s Maxx Kelly, Lackawanna Trail’s Avery Ronchi, and solid performances from Lakeland and Blue Ridge to cap an unforgettable day for the region.

Valley View closed out Senior Night with a 20-7 win over Wallenpaupack behind 285 rushing yards and three touchdowns, setting up a Halloween home playoff showdown with Dallas.

More than 400 Wallenpaupack Youth Soccer League members filled the field for the annual Youth Soccer Night, high-fiving varsity players and soaking in the spotlight before watching Valley View edge the Buckhorns, 2-1. The evening celebrated community, inspiration, and the next generation of players.

It was more than a press event. It was a reunion, a farewell, a coming-of-age story all in one. Hosted by longtime broadcaster Tony Sibila and Honesdale’s new head coach George Howanitz, Media Day was filled with stories from players on the cusp of adulthood and from coaches whose roots run deep in Northeastern Pennsylvania’s football soil. “It’s like a family reunion,” Howanitz said. “There’s history in every name on the roster.”

Elio Brunori "Big Papi" with the grand slam and Mason B’s complete-game shutout lifted the Valley View All-Stars 9-10-11 to a 14-0 win over Wallenpaupack, securing the PENNSYLVANIA 9-11 YEAR OLD DISTRICT 32 CHAMPIONSHIP Tuesday night in Jessup.

The rosters for the 91st Annual Dream Game have been released, featuring standout senior athletes from across the region. Representing the City team under head coach Jake Manetti (West Scranton) are top talents like Treyvon Dickey (Scranton Prep), Gabe Franek (Dunmore), and Drew Kiesendahl (Wallenpaupack). On the County side, head coach Mike Schuback (Old Forge) leads a loaded roster highlighted by Zach Cwalinski (Valley View), Richie Kostoff (Riverside), and Mason Avery (Honesdale). The game is scheduled for July 23 at John Henzes Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Dallas used a mix of early offense and late power to earn a 7-2 win over Wallenpaupack on Tuesday.

Abington Heights claimed the team title and East Stroudsburg North secured the final qualifying spot as both schools advanced to the Unified Champion Schools (UCS) State Track and Field Championships after strong showings at the Northeast/Pocono Regional, held Wednesday at Lakeland High School.

As the Cougars hosted Wallenpaupack and Delaware Valley in a thrilling Unified tri-meet, the scoreboard lit up with Valley View’s 133-point victory, but the real triumph was far more profound.
