It was more than a press event. It was a reunion, a farewell, a coming-of-age story all in one. Hosted by longtime broadcaster Tony Sibila and Honesdale’s new head coach George Howanitz, Media Day was filled with stories from players on the cusp of adulthood and from coaches whose roots run deep in Northeastern Pennsylvania’s football soil. “It’s like a family reunion,” Howanitz said. “There’s history in every name on the roster.”

Entering their district playoff semifinal game against Dallas, the Pittston Area Patriots had a record of 20-0. They kept their perfect season alive in dominating fashion, scoring a 16-6 win over their division rival Dallas Mountaineers. The win sends the Patriots to their third straight PIAA District Two Class AAAAA championship game.

Despite a strong showing at the plate and a solo home run from Dominick Zangardi, the Dallas Mountaineers fell just short in a 3-2 loss to the Pittston Patriots on Wednesday.
