Gallela’s Walk-Off Double Lifts Crestwood to 7-6 Extra-Inning Victory Over Wyoming Seminary.

In a game of two very different halves, Crestwood held off a fierce second-half surge by Lakeland to earn a 13-11 win in boys lacrosse action.

It was a dominant weekend for several local lacrosse programs, with Scranton Prep, Crestwood, and Abington Heights all turning in impressive performances. The Cavaliers overwhelmed North Pocono with a 15-1 victory, Crestwood’s girls edged Delaware Valley in a tight 10-8 battle, and Abington Heights rolled past Wyoming Area 16-2, showcasing firepower and depth across the board.

Crestwood controlled possession and made big plays on both ends of the field, with Caporuscio and Ziegler leading the charge in an early-season statement victory.

Their final score won’t tell the story — but the banners, the memories, and the milestones will. The best Crestwood girls basketball team ever didn’t just play for themselves — they played for every Comet that came before them.

After a slow start that saw Crestwood fall behind 2-0, the Comets exploded for six runs in the third inning to take control and eventually earn an 8-3 road win over Wyoming Area to open their season.

March 15, 2025 – Crestwood’s magical postseason run continues as they punched their ticket to the PIAA 5A Final Four with a hard-fought 54-47 victory over Strath Haven. A dominant third-quarter surge proved to be the difference, helping Crestwood pull away and withstand a late push from Strath Haven.

WILKES-BARRE, PA — In a hard-fought battle, Crestwood held off a late surge from Freire Charter to secure a 52-45 victory in the second round of the PIAA 5A state tournament on Wednesday night. With the win, the Comets punched their ticket to the quarterfinals, where they will face Strath Haven on Saturday.

The Crestwood Lady Comets secured a milestone victory on Saturday night, earning their first-ever state playoff win with a 51-39 triumph over Manheim Central. Despite a strong push from the Lady Barons in the second half, Crestwood responded with poise, using key defensive plays and clutch shooting to seal the victory.

The Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) Division 1 basketball regular season and district playoff has officially come to a close, and with it comes the announcement of the league’s top performers. Wilkes-Barre Area’s Dave Jannuzzi was named the Division 1 MVP, an honor that comes as no surprise given his dominant season.

The 2024-2025 Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) Division 1 basketball season has concluded, and the coaches have made their selections for the All-Star teams, recognizing the most outstanding players in the league. This year's honors feature impressive performances, with standout players from Hazleton, Pittston, Crestwood, Dallas, Wyoming Valley West, Berwick, and Wilkes-Barre Area making their mark.

Late in the first quarter, momentum was shifting towards Crestwood. The Lady Comets had a team effort on both offense and defense as they took their first District 2 title with a 54-31 victory over Dallas. Cameron Vieney had a game high 12 points and Jackie Gallagher added 10 points. “It’s a surreal feeling. I really can’t put it into words. It’s the most incredible feeling.” Said Crestwood head coach Mary Mushock-Namey.

Crestwood needed a full team effort on Saturday afternoon if they were to advance to the District Finals. Charlie Hiller had a game high 18 points and Jackie Gallagher added 14 points to get the 56-39 victory over Abington Heights to advance to the District 2 5A Finals. “We came in with a lot of confidence, came out with a bunch of energy and we came out as a team and we performed as best as we could for all four quarters.” Said Hiller. “Credit to the girls. They worked all week and they couldn’t have executed our plan any better.” Said Crestwood head coach Mary Mushock-Namey.

At the end of the first quarter, the score looked like it came out of a baseball game. It was 4-0 after the first quarter. Crestwood heated up to score 40 points in the final three quarters and their defense held Nanticoke to no points in the first quarter and allowed 12 through three quarters to advance to the District 2 5A Semifinals with a 44-24 victory over Nanticoke. “We got our transition working a little bit and on defense, we got a few more steals and it helped us get a little more offense.” Said Comets head coach Mark Atherton. Ayden Agopito scored a game high 18 points for Crestwood and Brady Grevera added 7.

When the first quarter came to an end, it looked like me it was going to be a possible upset for Crestwood. Hazleton Area slammed the door on the upset by only allowing six total points in the second quarter. They led 40-24 at halftime en route to a 63-51 victory to win their second consecutive Wyoming Valley Conference Championship over Crestwood. Alexis Reimold had a game high 22 points and Kaitlyn Bindas added 15 for Hazleton Area.
