Yannone’s Stock Keeps Rising: Dunmore Senior Set for Penn State Visit

DUNMORE — Weston Yannone spent his junior year showing people just how explosive of an athlete he could be. Now, as a senior, the Dunmore standout is turning that athleticism into growing opportunities at the Division I level.

The next one comes Saturday in Happy Valley.

Yannone is expected to visit Penn State this weekend as part of the Nittany Lions’ recruiting visitor list for their matchup with Marshall, continuing an offseason and early-season recruiting surge for one of District 2’s most intriguing senior prospects.

For those who followed Yannone last spring, the attention should come as little surprise.

Yannone made a name for himself by rewriting records within Dunmore’s track and field program and taking his speed and explosiveness all the way to the state stage. He emerged from his junior season as a PIAA state medalist, catching eyes across Pennsylvania and giving college football programs measurable evidence of the athleticism he brings to the field.

Then came the summer.

Yannone once again hit the recruiting and camp circuit, putting himself in front of college coaching staffs and continuing to build his profile. At Penn State, his performance caught the attention of Blue White Illustrated, which highlighted the Dunmore athlete after he ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash and reached 31 feet in the triple broad jump.

The Penn State recruiting outlet later mentioned Yannone again among potential wide receiver options worth monitoring, describing him as a dynamic athlete who could fit the profile of a late addition to the Nittany Lions’ recruiting class.

Now Yannone gets an opportunity to return to Happy Valley in a game-day environment.

But before making the trip, he gave college coaches another piece of film to watch.

A Statement to Open His Senior Season

Dunmore rolled to a 42-0 victory over Wyoming Area in its season opener Friday, and Yannone was seemingly everywhere.

The senior carried the ball 10 times for 62 yards and a touchdown, then turned just two receptions into 118 yards and two more touchdowns.

On defense, he added an interception.

Add it together: 180 yards from scrimmage, three touchdowns and a takeaway in his first game as a senior.

It was the kind of performance that illustrates why Yannone’s recruitment continues to gain momentum. His track numbers demonstrate the raw athletic ability; Friday nights are giving programs a chance to see how that translates with the football in his hands.

Yannone currently holds Division I offers from Army and Maine and remains in consistent communication with numerous Division I programs.

More opportunities are already on the calendar.

He has received game-day invitations from Temple and Army in the coming weeks, while Saturday’s trip to Penn State gives him another chance to continue building a relationship with one of college football’s biggest programs.

For Yannone, the goal throughout the process has remained clear: play football at the highest level possible.

And his résumé continues to grow.

Record-setting track and field athlete. State medalist. Division I football offers. Penn State camp recognition. Multiple game-day invitations.

And now, a three-touchdown performance to begin his senior season.

District 2 Represented in Happy Valley

Yannone won’t be the only District 2 standout expected in State College Saturday.

Delaware Valley senior tight end James Dabney is also listed among Penn State’s expected recruiting visitors for the Marshall game, giving the region another prospect an opportunity to get an up-close look at the Nittany Lions program.

For Yannone, however, this weekend is another checkpoint in a journey that accelerated during a breakout junior year and hasn’t slowed down since.

The track helped show just how gifted an athlete he is.

The camp circuit put him in front of college coaches.

Now his senior football season provides the biggest stage yet to show what he can do.
