WEST PITTSTON, PA — The Wyoming Area Warriors are bringing home a championship.
Wyoming Area continued its impressive late-season surge Friday night, rolling past Greater Nanticoke Area 63-21 at Jake Sobeski Stadium to capture the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3 title.
The victory marked the Warriors’ sixth consecutive win and improved their overall record to 7-2, giving head coach Randy Spencer’s squad plenty of momentum heading into the final week of the regular season.
Wyoming Area wasted little time taking control, jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter behind a dominant performance from Nicholas Kondrosky.
Kondrosky rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries, scoring from 3, 68, and 4 yards out. All three touchdowns came within the opening 9:24 of the contest.
The Warriors continued to pour it on in the second quarter, building a commanding 49-0 halftime advantage.
Quarterback Luke Kopetchny helped set the tone defensively as well, recording an interception and returning it 21 yards to the Nanticoke 3-yard line to set up Wyoming Area’s opening touchdown.
Wyoming Area’s explosive offensive attack continued into the second half.
Dominic Bartel broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter, while Kopetchny connected with Lucas Viadock on a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Semaj Morris also delivered a standout performance, scoring on a 42-yard run before showcasing his speed on special teams with a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The Warriors’ ability to create explosive plays proved to be a major difference, with five touchdowns covering at least 42 yards.
Nanticoke managed to find some offensive rhythm in the second half. Jonah Guzman scored on a 3-yard touchdown run, while quarterback Chet Beggs connected with Justin Johnson for a 60-yard touchdown. Yahir De la Cruz added an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
However, Wyoming Area’s early dominance proved too much to overcome.
The championship victory represents a significant accomplishment for the Warriors, who finished the 2025 regular season with a 9-1 record but came away without a division title.
This season, Wyoming Area has made sure to finish the job.
The Warriors have been particularly impressive in divisional competition, outscoring their three WVC Division 3 opponents by a combined 167-23.
Now, Wyoming Area turns its attention to one of the area’s most anticipated rivalry matchups.
The Warriors will travel to face Pittston Area next Friday night in the annual rivalry showdown between two Wyoming Valley Conference division champions.
With a division championship secured and six straight victories behind them, the Warriors will look to keep their momentum rolling as postseason football approaches.
