Wolfpack Runs Past Berwick, 22-12, in Road Showdown

BERWICK, Pa. — Wilkes-Barre Area used a strong ground game and a pair of second-half touchdowns to pull away from Berwick for a 22-12 victory Friday night at Crispin Field.

The Wolfpack improved to 3-1 on the season with the road win, while Berwick fell to 2-2. The victory also gave Wilkes-Barre Area the edge in the teams' all-time series, which entered the night tied at 2-2. The Wolfpack had won the previous meeting, 34-21, in 2023.

Berwick struck first, marching 21 yards before Brady Cleaver scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 8:50 remaining in the opening quarter. The extra point was unsuccessful, leaving the Bulldogs with a 6-0 lead.

Wilkes-Barre Area answered later in the quarter. Declan Gregor powered into the end zone from 1 yard out with 2:49 remaining, and the ensuing PAT was good to put the Wolfpack ahead, 7-6.

The Wolfpack extended its advantage late in the second quarter when Noah Monsuer scored on a 4-yard touchdown run with 2:53 remaining before halftime. Wilkes-Barre Area successfully converted the ensuing two-point attempt to take a 15-6 lead into the break.

Berwick came out of halftime looking to close the gap, and Cleaver provided the answer.

With 11:00 left in the third quarter, Cleaver broke loose for an 84-yard touchdown run, giving Berwick its second score of the night. The extra point was no good, however, and the Bulldogs remained behind, 15-12.

Wilkes-Barre Area responded with another rushing touchdown later in the quarter. Kymani Hubbard-Jones found the end zone on a 6-yard run with 2:45 remaining in the third, pushing the Wolfpack advantage to 22-12.

That proved to be the final scoring play of the night.

Neither team found the end zone in the fourth quarter as Wilkes-Barre Area's defense held Berwick at bay and the Wolfpack secured the 10-point road victory. Berwick also suffered some injuries which may have had an impact on the final score.

The Wolfpack's rushing attack accounted for all four of its touchdowns, while Berwick's two scores came on runs by Cleaver.
