Millionaires improve to 6-2 with dominant road victory over the Bulldogs
BERWICK, Pa. — The Williamsport Millionaires continued their strong season Friday night, blanking the Berwick Bulldogs, 28-0, in a non-conference matchup to improve to 6-2 overall.
Playing on a soggy field under fair weather conditions, Williamsport overcame a scoreless first quarter and gradually took control, scoring in each of the final three quarters to secure the shutout. Berwick fell to 4-4 on the season.
The Millionaires broke through late in the first half with a spectacular passing play that gave them the lead for good. With less than a minute remaining before halftime, quarterback Tevin Williams connected with Zion Hughes on a 70-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good, sending Williamsport into the locker room with a 7-0 advantage.
Williamsport carried that momentum into the second half. The Millionaires opened the third quarter with a rushing touchdown to extend their lead to 14-0 following another successful point after touchdown.
The teams traded fumbles during a hectic stretch later in the third quarter, but Williamsport capitalized on the ensuing opportunities. After recovering a Berwick fumble, the Millionaires put together another scoring drive, capped by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Kason Ulmer. The extra point pushed the advantage to 21-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
Berwick struggled to generate points against the Williamsport defense, which repeatedly forced the Bulldogs to surrender possession. The Millionaires also faced a few setbacks of their own, losing fumbles in the second half, but the Bulldogs were unable to turn those opportunities into points.
Williamsport added its final touchdown in the fourth quarter after Berwick turned the ball over on downs. Taking possession at the Bulldogs' 17-yard line, the Millionaires moved closer to the end zone before Williams scored on an eight-yard run. The successful extra point made it 28-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The Millionaires' defense preserved the shutout the rest of the way, forcing another turnover on downs before the final whistle.
Williams finished the night as a key contributor to the victory, throwing two touchdown passes and adding a rushing score. His 70-yard connection with Hughes provided the game's first points, while the eight-yard pass to Ulmer helped Williamsport pull away in the third quarter.
With the victory, Williamsport moves to 6-2 and continues its push through the regular season. Berwick, now 4-4, will look to regroup after being held scoreless at home.
The final score told the story of a Williamsport team that remained patient early, found its offensive rhythm after halftime and paired its scoring attack with a defense that did not allow Berwick to reach the scoreboard.
