Well, folks, it seems Mother Nature decided to reschedule the drama for another day, because Monday’s matchup between Valley View and West Scranton was anything but a nail-biter. After a squeaky 6-5 win back in April, the Valley View Cougars decided to skip the suspense for their Senior Night, delivering a commanding 6-0 shutout against the West Scranton Invaders. It was a memorable Senior Night for Abbi Call, Zoie Krupovich, Nevaeh Evans, and Ella Swingle, as they celebrated their contributions to the team. Valley View still has one regular season home game remaining, against Delaware Valley.

The Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first when Maggie Hallett hammered a double, bringing in a couple of teammates. West Scranton’s Julia Farkaly made a spectacular over the shoulder catch in deep center field off the bat of Coral Kelly, robbing her of what would have been a bases clearing hit and preventing the Cougars from extending their early lead. The momentum continued into the third inning, where Valley View piled on three more runs, extending their lead to 5-0. An error by West Scranton contributed one run to the tally, and then Coral Kelly launched a majestic home run to left field, adding two more runs batted in to her impressive resume. The Cougars’ bats were hot all afternoon, collecting a whopping 13 hits throughout the game, and displaying some seriously clean defense with not a single error.

On the mound, Abbi Call was simply unhittable, throwing a complete game shutout and allowing only a single hit over seven innings. She carved through the West Scranton lineup, striking out eight batters and walking six, though none of those walks ever amounted to a run. West Scranton's starting pitcher, Kaleiah Connor, battled for five innings, surrendering five runs (only two of which were earned) on ten hits, striking out one, and walking two. Alexa Jaworski came on in relief for the Invaders, pitching one inning and allowing one earned run on three hits. The West Scranton offense struggled to find its rhythm, with Alexa Jaworski recording the team's sole hit. Julia Farkaly managed to draw two walks, but overall, the Invaders couldn't string anything together against Abbi Call's dominance. They did turn one double play, which was a nice moment in an otherwise tough day at the plate.

Player of the Game: Abbi Call

Choosing a Player of the Game isn't always easy, but today, Abbi Call made it an absolute no-brainer. Not only did she dominate from the pitcher's circle with a one-hit, eight-strikeout shutout, but she also led her team at the plate, going a perfect three for three. When you deliver a performance like that on Senior Night, shutting down the opposing team while sparking your own offense, you've earned every bit of the spotlight.
