Valley View Cougars came to play in this Class 4A semifinal matchup, absolutely steamrolling Wallenpaupack Area with an 11-0 victory on Wednesday. If you blinked, you might have missed a run, especially in that third inning where Valley View really decided to open the floodgates.
Zoie Krupovich was an absolute force at the plate for the Cougars. She was responsible for driving in four runs on three hits, getting things started early with a two-run single in the first, then really putting an exclamation point on her day with a two-run homer to center field in the third. It was just one of those games where everything clicked for Valley View. They racked up seven runs in that third inning alone, with Zoie Krupovich's home run, Mady Minelli's RBI double, and an error that brought home three more runs, plus an RBI single from Abbi Call. They even got on the board in the first inning with Zoie Krupovich's single, an error, and a daring steal of home, showing they were ready to be aggressive from the jump.
On the pitching side, Abbi Call was simply dominant for Valley View, earning the win after a superb outing. She threw five innings of shutout ball, surrendering just one hit and a single walk, while striking out seven Wallenpaupack batters. Talk about stifling the competition! The Cougars’ defense was also rock solid, playing a completely error-free game, with Maggie Hallett making seven plays behind the plate. Ashlyn Palickar was a menace on the basepaths, swiping two bags, contributing to Valley View’s four stolen bases on the day, alongside Cora Castellani and Zoie Krupovich each adding one. Ella Swingle, Maggie Hallett, and Coral Kelly also contributed hits to Valley View's ten hit attack.
For Wallenpaupack Area, it was a tough day at the office. Adrianna Milutinovic managed their only hit of the game, going one for two at the plate. Lucy Babyak started on the mound and took the loss, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits over two and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. Lexi Laing came in relief, pitching one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two, and striking out none. Madison Haynes and Sarah Decker each struck out twice, while Hannah Daidone struck out once. The Wallenpaupack lineup just couldn't find an answer to Abbi Call's pitching, struggling to generate any offense against the dominant Cougars.
Zoie Krupovich absolutely delivered when her team needed it most, especially in a semifinal game. Driving in four runs, collecting three hits, and launching a home run is the kind of performance that not only sparks an offense but also demoralizes the opponent. Her clutch hitting in the first and the power display in the third were pivotal in establishing Valley View's early and decisive lead, making her the undeniable standout player of this game.
