WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Football was in the air Thursday evening as approximately 400 to 500 young athletes filled the field at Wilkes University for the 2026 Valley League Youth Football Camp, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of energy, excitement, and community.
Hosted in partnership between the Valley Football Conference (VFC) and Wilkes University Football, the annual event gave young athletes the opportunity to learn from college football players while developing the fundamentals of the game in a fun, positive environment.
From the moment campers took the field, the excitement was evident. Every drill station was buzzing as players sprinted from one activity to the next, eager to improve their footwork, passing, agility, and overall football skills.
One of the highlights of the evening was the involvement of the Wilkes University football team. Players spent the night coaching, encouraging, and interacting with campers at every station. Their enthusiasm helped create an environment where every child felt welcomed, challenged, and motivated to learn.
The atmosphere was electric. Parents packed the sidelines while hundreds of young athletes competed, laughed, and celebrated with teammates throughout the evening. The energy never slowed, and it was clear that the campers were soaking up every opportunity to learn from the college athletes leading the drills.
Beyond the football instruction, the camp emphasized confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a passion for the game. Events like these continue to strengthen the connection between Wilkes University Football and the local football community while inspiring the next generation of players.
With hundreds of campers in attendance and an incredible group of Wilkes student-athletes giving back to the community, the 2026 Valley League Youth Football Camp was another tremendous success.
For a few hours on Thursday night, football brought the community together, and judging by the smiles on the campers’ faces, the future of the game is in good hands.
