Trojans Take Down Valley View, 27-14, in Strong All-Around Performance

North Pocono put together a strong all-around performance Friday night, using a powerful ground game and a defense that came up with big plays as the Trojans defeated Valley View, 27-14.
The Trojans received the opening kickoff and started at their own 20-yard line following a touchback. North Pocono moved the chains several times on its opening possession, with Chase Zimmerman providing a strong run, Henry Wolff making a nice catch and Cole West converting a fourth-and-one with a short run. Zimmerman later picked up five yards on fourth-and-five, but the drive stalled at the Valley View 29-yard line. Shane Youngblood put North Pocono on the board with a 42-yard field goal, giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead with 4:25 remaining in the first quarter.
Valley View answered with a scoring drive of its own. Tyler Muchal broke off a 20-yard run before Colin Dempsey connected with Cash Row to move the Cougars down to the North Pocono 1-yard line. Muchal finished the drive with a touchdown run, and Valley View took a 7-3 lead.
North Pocono quickly regained control. West broke loose for a big run down to the Valley View 23-yard line, and after penalties on both teams moved the Trojans forward, NP continued to pound the ball on the ground. Zimmerman eventually powered into the end zone from one yard out, with Youngblood’s extra point putting North Pocono ahead 10-7.
The Trojans added to their lead late in the second quarter. West ripped off another strong run to the 47-yard line before Wolff delivered a huge gain all the way to the Valley View 1-yard line. After a couple of plays, Zimmerman found the end zone again. Youngblood’s kick made it 17-7 with 3:01 left in the half.
North Pocono added another Youngblood field goal before halftime, sending the Trojans into the locker room with a 20-7 advantage.
The Trojans continued to control the game after halftime. Valley View’s opening drive of the second half stalled, while North Pocono’s defense repeatedly created pressure. A quarterback sack by JC Miller pushed Valley View back to its own 6-yard line, followed by another tackle from Wolff that forced the Cougars even deeper.
North Pocono then put together another scoring drive. West raced down while tiptoeing along the sideline and eventually moved the ball down to the Valley View 4-yard line. Jayden Taylor finished the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, and Youngblood’s extra point extended the Trojans’ lead to 27-7.
Valley View tried to mount a comeback, including a fake punt that moved the Cougars to midfield, but the North Pocono defense eventually forced another punt. The kick pinned North Pocono at its own 6-yard line, but Wolff responded with a monster run to the North Pocono 44-yard line as the third quarter came to an end.
The Cougars finally found the end zone again in the fourth quarter when Dempsey connected with Ben Evans for a 22-yard touchdown. Loff’s extra point was good and cut the North Pocono lead to 27-14.
North Pocono was able to close out the victory after fourth-down penalty against Valley View gave the Trojans a first down late, allowing North Pocono to take a few kneel-downs and seal the win.

North Pocono will now turn its attention to its next challenge as the Trojans prepare to host longtime rival Abington Heights next week. The matchup will provide another tough test in Lackawanna Football Conference play, as North Pocono looks to build on its strong rushing attack and physical defensive performance following Friday night’s victory over Valley View.
