WILDWOOD, N.J. — A group of local athletes and members of MTFC, coached by Stan Shaffer, put together an unforgettable weekend at the Cape Express Beach Blast Soccer Tournament, capturing the Tikki Trophy with an undefeated run on the sand at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood. The annual Beach Blast tournament draws youth teams from across the Mid-Atlantic to compete in one of the region’s premier beach soccer events.
Competing as Team Crab Attack, Shaffer’s squad opened tournament play in dominant fashion, rolling to a 10-0 victory over the Mifflin FC MFC Hyenas.
They followed that performance with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Ridley United Soccer Club Suns of Pitches, showcasing both resilience and composure in a tightly contested matchup.
On Sunday morning, Crab Attack continued its impressive run by defeating the West Deptford SC West Dragons, 5-1, punching its ticket to the championship match.
The title game proved to be the toughest test of the weekend. Facing Cinnaminson SC Red Fudgy Wudgies, Crab Attack battled through an offensive shootout before emerging with a thrilling 6-5 victory to secure the tournament championship and bring home the coveted Tikki Trophy.
Over four matches, Team Crab Attack outscored its opponents 24-8, combining explosive offensive production with timely defending throughout the weekend.
The championship marks a memorable accomplishment for Coach Shaffer and the MTFC players, who came together to compete in one of the East Coast’s signature beach soccer tournaments. Held annually on the beaches of Wildwood, the Cape Express Beach Blast offers a unique, fast-paced style of soccer while attracting hundreds of teams from throughout the region.
Congratulations to Coach Stan Shaffer and Team Crab Attack on an outstanding championship weekend in Wildwood.
