Sportzwire's Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 23rd, sponsored by Envy Electrical, shines the spotlight on a standout student-athlete who continues to make waves both on and off the field—Makenzie Bevan of Tunkhannock Area High School.

A dynamic junior and leader for the Lady Tigers softball team, Bevan recently delivered a performance for the ages in a victory over Mid Valley. She went an incredible 3-for-5 at the plate, blasting three home runs and driving in eight RBIs—an offensive explosion that underscores her impact as one of the area’s premier players.

While softball has become her true calling, Bevan’s athletic journey began with a variety of sports. “I played all the normal sports growing up like gymnastics, basketball, and soccer, but I never really stuck with any of them,” she said. “I have been playing volleyball since 7th grade and currently still playing for our high school team. Softball definitely has a very special place in my heart.”

That passion is exactly what separates her. For Bevan, softball is more than just competition—it’s a defining part of her identity. “Softball isn’t just something I do, it’s become a part of who I am,” she explained. “It pushes me physically, but also mentally. It’s taught me leadership, teamwork, and confidence. I’ve built some of my favorite friendships through this sport, and it brings me joy every single day.”

Her dedication has not gone unnoticed. Bevan’s growing list of accolades highlights her excellence on the field, including:

  • Wyoming Valley Conference Coaches All-Star Selection (First Team, 2025)

  • The Times Leader and Citizen’s Voice All-WVC Selection (2025)

  • PIAA All-State Nominee (2025)

  • Citizen’s Voice and Sportzwire Athlete of the Week (March 23, 2026)

  • Tunkhannock Tigers Coaches Award (2025)

Off the field, Bevan is just as impressive. A member of the Class of 2027, she holds a stellar 4.06 GPA and ranks 19th out of 145 students. She has earned Honor Roll recognition for three consecutive school years and is a member of the National Honor Society for 2025–2026.

Behind her success is a strong support system, led by someone she credits as her biggest role model—her father. “He’s always there, working out and training with me, helping me get ready for games,” Bevan said. “He’s pushed me to be stronger physically, but also mentally. He’s taught me how to stay focused and confident no matter what’s happening on the field. He’s made a huge difference in my life.”

Bevan also understands the importance of giving back. Alongside her teammates, she volunteers at Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen and the Triton Hose Company in Tunkhannock, demonstrating her commitment to her community.

With her relentless work ethic, leadership, and passion for the game, Makenzie Bevan continues to set the standard for what it means to be a true student-athlete. Whether she’s crushing home runs, excelling in the classroom, or serving her community, one thing is clear—her future is just as bright as her present.

Congratulations to Makenzie Bevan, Sportzwire’s Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Envy Electrical.
