The path back to district gold remains alive for Mid Valley.

The defending District 2 Class 3A champions put together another dominant postseason performance Wednesday, rolling past Carbondale Area 12-0 in the semifinals to secure a return trip to the district title game.

The Spartanettes wasted little time taking control and leaned on another electric outing from ace Ava Hazelton to finish the job.

Hazelton was in complete command from the circle, overpowering Carbondale hitters across five shutout innings. The right-hander struck out 12, surrendered just one hit, and walked only one batter while facing 18 hitters.

Mid Valley wasted no time giving its ace breathing room.

The Spartanettes jumped in front in the opening inning after Angela Laskowski drew a bases-loaded walk, Ariana Davey followed with another RBI walk, and Natalie Hricenak ripped a two-run double to quickly build a four-run cushion.

The second inning only widened the gap.

Mid Valley plated six more runs as Laskowski doubled home a run, Julie Prisco worked an RBI walk, Hricenak delivered another RBI double, and Marley Morano broke things open with a two-run triple.

By the third inning, Mid Valley was firmly in control.

Laskowski added another RBI double and Abbey Mackey brought home another run as the Spartanettes stretched the advantage to 12-0.

Mid Valley collected eight hits while also showing patience throughout the afternoon, drawing 10 walks.

Laskowski drove the middle of the lineup with three RBIs while finishing 2-for-2. Hricenak also finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Morano added a two-run triple as part of the offensive surge.

Carbondale’s lone hit came from Abby Carachilo, while the Chargerettes also turned a double play defensively.

Now comes the matchup everyone had circled.

With the victory, Mid Valley advances to Tuesday’s District 2 Class 3A championship game where the Spartanettes will meet top-seeded Lake-Lehman in a rematch with district gold and bragging rights on the line.
