WILKES-BARRE — On championship night at Mohegan Sun Arena, it was poise, depth, and star power that ultimately separated Scranton Prep from Dallas.

Behind a dominant 28-point performance from Chicky Skoff, the Cavaliers pulled away in the second half to secure a 68-52 victory over Dallas and claim the District 2 Class 4A boys basketball championship.

For a half, Dallas made it uncomfortable.

The Mountaineers came out swinging in the second quarter, erupting for 28 points after trailing 15-10 at the end of the first. Pat Flanagan led the charge with 18 points on the night, attacking the rim and knocking down free throws to keep Dallas within striking distance. Tyce Mason added 10 points, while Kael Berry chipped in nine as Dallas showed grit and offensive rhythm.

But championship games are about adjustments.

And Scranton Prep made theirs.

Skoff was nearly unstoppable, finishing with nine field goals and going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Every time Dallas threatened, Skoff responded — whether it was a strong take to the basket, a timely three, or calmly converting at the line.

He wasn’t alone.

Packy Doherty added 20 points, providing a steady inside presence and knocking down four free throws in critical moments. Max McGrath contributed 11 points, while Brody Martin chipped in five as Prep’s balanced attack began to wear Dallas down.

After Dallas’ explosive second quarter, Scranton Prep’s defense tightened in the second half. The Cavaliers limited the Mountaineers to just 14 points in the third and 12 in the fourth, controlling the tempo and forcing difficult looks. Their composure at the free-throw line — 15 made on 21 attempts — helped seal it late.

By the final buzzer, the Cavaliers had turned a competitive battle into a statement finish.

For Dallas, the loss doesn’t erase the fight. Flanagan’s 18-point effort highlighted a team that never backed down on the big stage. They shot 18 field goals and knocked down five three-pointers, showing flashes of the offensive firepower that carried them to the arena.

But on this night, Scranton Prep had the closer.

Under the bright lights, with a district championship on the line, Skoff delivered — and the Cavaliers are bringing the 4A title back to Scranton.
