WILKES-BARRE — Championship games demand poise, discipline, and the ability to execute under pressure.

On Thursday night inside Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza, Scranton Prep showed exactly why it remains the gold standard in District 2 Class 4A girls basketball.

In a back-and-forth battle where Valley View refused to back down, the Classics relied on their defense and late-game execution to secure a 52-47 victory and another district championship.

Scranton Prep controlled much of the tempo early, establishing defensive pressure and forcing Valley View into tough half-court possessions. The Classics built small cushions throughout the game, but each time it looked like they might create separation, the Cougars answered.

Valley View’s resilience kept the championship atmosphere electric. The Cougars battled on the glass, attacked in transition, and continued to chip away at the deficit. A strong second-half push tightened the margin and made the final minutes a grind-it-out finish.

But when it mattered most, Scranton Prep executed like champions.

The Classics clamped down defensively in the closing stretch, limited second-chance opportunities, and converted critical free throws to protect their lead. Their composure in late-game situations proved to be the difference.

Chloe Mamera powered Scranton Prep with 21 points, delivering inside and finishing through contact in key moments. Kamyl Lynady added 10 points, while Eva Kaszuba contributed nine in a balanced championship effort.

For Valley View, Cora Castellani led the way with 19 points, including three shots from beyond the arc. Ava Gazoo added 11 points, and Ashlan Palickar chipped in five as the Cougars battled until the final horn.

With the victory, Scranton Prep captures its fourth consecutive District 2 championship and eighth in the last nine years, a testament to the program’s sustained excellence and defensive identity.

Valley View may have fallen short on the scoreboard, but their grit and refusal to fade made this title game a true battle from start to finish.

In championship moments, defense and execution win and once again, Scranton Prep proved it knows how to close.
