Scranton Prep Dominates Lancaster Catholic to Open State Playoffs

SCRANTON — Scranton Prep opened the PIAA Class 4A girls basketball state playoffs in commanding fashion Saturday night, defeating Lancaster Catholic 52–27 at the Xavier Center to advance to the Round of 16.


The Classics set the tone early, jumping out to a 13–6 lead after the first quarter and steadily building on that advantage throughout the night. Scranton Prep continued to control the game in the second quarter, extending the margin to 25–6 at halftime behind efficient offense and strong defensive pressure.


Lancaster Catholic showed signs of life in the third quarter, outscoring the Classics 11–15, but Scranton Prep quickly regained control in the final frame to seal the decisive 25-point victory.


Eva Kaszuba led the Classics with 16 points, while Chloe Mamera added 15 points in a balanced scoring effort. Kamyl Lynady chipped in 6 points, and Shannon Bestrycki finished with 5, helping Scranton Prep maintain control on both ends of the floor.


Scranton Prep shot the ball efficiently, finishing with 21 field goals while limiting Lancaster Catholic to just 12 made shots on the night.


Lancaster Catholic was led by Mia Bonafede, who scored 11 points, while Charlotte Albertini added 6 and Destiny Lewis finished with 4.


With the win, Scranton Prep advances to the Round of 16 in the PIAA Class 4A state playoffs, where the Classics will face Allentown Central Catholic on Wednesday at a site to be determined.
