West Scranton earned a 53 to 44 win over Wallenpaupack on Saturday night in Lackawanna Division I boys basketball action, highlighted by a historic milestone from senior guard Nate Schimelfenig.

Schimelfenig scored the 1,000th point of his career early in the first quarter, needing just four points entering the night and reaching the mark with 4:40 remaining. He finished with a game high 18 points to pace the Invaders, providing steady scoring as West Scranton built momentum across four quarters.

The Invaders held a narrow lead after the opening period before Wallenpaupack responded in the second quarter to make it a competitive first half. West Scranton took control after the break, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to outscore Wallenpaupack in the second half and create separation.

Brian Fried delivered a strong all around performance for West Scranton with 13 points, while Jahmeir Rivera added 12 points and knocked down key perimeter shots to keep the offense moving. West Scranton connected on six three pointers and limited second chance opportunities on the defensive end to close out the win.

For Wallenpaupack, Nick VanBuskirk led the effort with 15 points, attacking the basket and finishing through contact. JP Yeo provided a spark from the outside, connecting on three three pointers and scoring nine points. Grady Liddy and Diego Adames each chipped in seven points as the Bucks continued to battle into the fourth quarter.

The night belonged to Schimelfenig, whose milestone reflected years of dedication and support from those around him.

“Hitting one thousand points means so much to me and it is a reflection of all the hours and sacrifices I have made to get to this point. I wanna thank God because none of this is possible without His grace. I also wanna thank my coaches for believing in me and supporting me everyday. My teammates played such a huge role in this also. This is such a great group of guys and none of this is possible without them. And most importantly my family who have made countless sacrifices and efforts to help me achieve this goal.”
