SUSQUEHANNA - District playoff baseball delivered another dramatic finish Thursday afternoon as Susquehanna Community erased a late deficit and walked off Forest City, 5-4, in the District 2 Class A semifinal at Susquehanna Community High School.

With a championship berth hanging in the balance, the Sabers entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-3 before stringing together one final rally. Gabe Maby stepped to the plate and delivered the game’s biggest moment, lining a two-run single that brought home the winning runs and sent Susquehanna into celebration mode.

The win advances Susquehanna Community into Tuesday’s District 2 Class A championship game against MMI Prep.

Susquehanna struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of a passed ball to grab an early 1-0 lead.

Forest City answered in the second and evened the score at 1-1 after a Saber error helped bring a run home.

The Sabers regained the lead later in the inning when Jax Thomas worked a bases-loaded walk to push across a run and make it 2-1.

For much of the afternoon, both teams traded momentum while pitchers worked through pressure situations.

Forest City saved its biggest push for the seventh inning. Entering the frame tied, the Foresters surged ahead 4-3 thanks to an RBI single from Collin Burrell and a two-run triple off the bat of Wyatt Reynolds, putting Susquehanna on the brink.

But the Sabers refused to let their season end quietly.

Caedon Stone kept the game within reach throughout the afternoon and gave his offense an opportunity in the final frame. Susquehanna loaded the bases before Maby delivered the decisive blow, driving in two runs and completing the comeback.

Stone earned the victory after tossing a complete game. The right-hander allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out six.

Jeremy Slick turned in a strong effort for Forest City, working 6⅓ innings with six strikeouts while allowing four runs, three earned.

Jax Thomas, Owen Cook, Gabe Maby, Alex Krayeski, and Hunter Downton each recorded a hit for Susquehanna. Maby, Krayeski, and Thomas each drove in runs, while Thomas also drew two walks to help ignite the offense.

Forest City collected seven hits, led by Jeremy Slick and Jake Burleigh with two each. Wyatt Reynolds drove in two runs with his seventh-inning triple, while Collin Burrell added an RBI.

The Sabers now shift their focus to Tuesday, where a District 2 championship will be on the line against MMI Prep.
