Riverside Stays Perfect With 27-3 Win Over Lackawanna Trail

TAYLOR — Riverside continued its perfect start to the 2026 season Friday night, using a strong second half to pull away from Lackawanna Trail for a 27-3 victory at Riverside Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The win improved the Vikings to 4-0 and gave Riverside its first victory over Lackawanna Trail in four seasons after the Lions had won each of the previous three meetings.

Senior quarterback Brayden Rose helped lead the way for Riverside, making key plays throughout the contest as the Vikings took control following halftime.

Riverside entered the break with the lead, but Rose said the message at halftime was to settle in, bring more energy and find a way to add to the advantage.

The Vikings did just that.

Riverside took command during the second half while its defense kept Lackawanna Trail out of the end zone, limiting the Lions to just three points on the night.

The performance continued an impressive opening month for Riverside on both sides of the football.

The Vikings opened their season with a 42-7 victory over Susquehanna before shutting out Holy Cross, 42-0. Riverside followed that with a 27-13 road victory over Lake-Lehman before returning home and defeating Lackawanna Trail.

Through four games, Riverside has outscored its opponents 138-23.

That combination of offensive production and defensive consistency has allowed the Vikings to open the season with four consecutive victories.

Friday’s result was particularly significant considering Riverside’s recent history against Lackawanna Trail. The Lions had defeated the Vikings in each of the previous three seasons, giving Riverside an opportunity to end that streak on its home field.

Rose and the Vikings made sure they did.

For Lackawanna Trail, the loss continued a difficult start to the season. The Lions fell to 0-4 following earlier losses to Western Wayne, Dunmore and Lakeland.

Riverside will now take its undefeated record on the road.

The Vikings travel to Old Forge on Friday, Sept. 25, for a 7 p.m. matchup, while Lackawanna Trail returns home to face Mid Valley.

Four games into the season, Riverside remains perfect.

And after three straight losses to Lackawanna Trail, the Vikings finally flipped the script Friday night in Taylor.
