The Bobcats converted 4 of 7 power-play chances while Penn State managed just 1 of 4, a special-teams gap that proved decisive. Quinnipiac also outshot the Nittany Lions 46-33, forcing Penn State goaltender Joshua Fleming to make 40 saves.

Penn State jumped ahead early, getting goals from Justin Larose and Mac Gadowsky at 4:36 and 9:53 of the first period to take a 2-0 lead.
Quinnipiac answered quickly. Antonin Verreault scored on the power play at 11:02, and Ethan Wyttenbach tied the game 2-2 just over two minutes later at 13:22. Mason Marcellus then put the Bobcats ahead for good with a power-play goal with 52 seconds remaining in the first period, giving Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes.

Quinnipiac extended its lead in the second period. Jack Stockfish scored on the power play at 6:02 to make it 4-2, and Markus Vidicek added a goal with just 14 seconds remaining in the period, giving the Bobcats a 5-2 advantage heading into the second intermission.

In the third period, Graham Sward's power-play goal at 10:42 pushed Quinnipiac's lead to 6-2 before Luke Misa answered for Penn State on the power play at 12:57, cutting the deficit to 6-3 with 7:03 remaining. Neither team scored again, securing the three-goal victory for Quinnipiac.
Wyttenbach was named the game's first star after recording one goal and two assists. Marcellus, the second star, also finished with a goal and two assists, while Verreault earned third-star honors with a goal and an assist.

The final minute of the third period featured a heated altercation with 47 seconds remaining, resulting in several penalties for both teams. Quinnipiac's Nate Tivey, Evan Groenewold and Gavin Frasca received roughing minors, while Mike Lansing was assessed a slashing minor. Penn State's Shea Van Olm, Nolan Collins, Reese Laubach and Dane Dowiak also received roughing minors. Misconduct penalties were assessed to Frasca and Dowiak.

Quinnipiac finished with 32 faceoff wins compared to Penn State's 33, while the Bobcats blocked 12 shots and the Nittany Lions blocked 16. Before the late-game altercation, Quinnipiac had been assessed four penalties totaling eight minutes, while Penn State had seven penalties totaling 14 minutes.

Fleming turned aside 40 of 46 shots in the loss for Penn State, while Quinnipiac goaltender Christian Kirsch stopped 30 of 33 shots to secure the victory.
Despite jumping out to an early two-goal lead, Penn State struggled to contain Quinnipiac's offensive pressure and power-play opportunities. The Bobcats scored six unanswered goals before Penn State's late third-period response, turning an early deficit into a convincing road victory.
