The NEPA Storm 10U completed an undefeated run through the weekend's travel softball tournament at Marvine's Softball Field in Scranton, culminating in an 11-1 championship victory over the Bucks Stingerz. The Storm went 5-0 over three days, securing the title with a dominant performance on Sunday.
The Bucks Stingerz were the first to put runs on the board in the opening inning when Sammy M grounded out, bringing home one run. However, the NEPA Storm quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame. Frankie N drove a triple down the left field line, followed by Liliana S singling down the left field line, with each hit scoring a run to give the Storm a 2-1 lead.
NEPA Storm extended their advantage in the second inning when Grace E skillfully stole home. The decisive push came in the third inning as the NEPA Storm offense exploded for six runs. Liliana S drew a walk to bring in a run, and Grace E followed with a single that scored two more. Eliza I added to the rally with a single, driving in a run. Grace then scored after tagging up, and Grace W capped off the scoring with another single, bringing in one more run to build a substantial lead.
Grace E started on the mound for NEPA Storm, delivering a strong performance. She conceded one hit and one run over three innings, recording seven strikeouts and walking two. Nora P then entered in relief, pitching one inning of shutout ball. Nora P was effective, allowing two hits while striking out two batters. For the Bucks Stingerz, Layla D started and faced a potent NEPA Storm offense.
The NEPA Storm offense was prolific, accumulating 11 hits throughout the game. Liliana S, Nora P, and Adaline O each contributed significantly with two hits apiece. Liliana S and Grace E were key run producers, each driving in two runs. The Storm also demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing five walks, with Arya A earning two of them. Aggressive base running was another highlight for NEPA Storm, as the team stole 15 bases. Grace E, Nora P, and Arya A each recorded multiple stolen bases. Defensively, NEPA Storm played a flawless game, committing no errors, with Liliana S leading the team with nine defensive chances.
For the Bucks Stingerz, Victoria D, Claire A, and Laila M each collected one hit. Sammy M was responsible for their lone run batted in. The Bucks Stingerz defense was also sure-handed, playing error-free baseball, with Sammy M making six plays in the field.
