Pittston Area Advances to League Championship with 152-175 Win Over Berwick

Top-seeded Pittston Area delivered another strong performance of their season, defeating No. 4 Berwick, 152-175, in the opening round of the high school golf playoffs Tuesday at Fox Hill Country Club.
The postseason is here, and Pittston Area came ready to play.
The Patriots put together four scoring rounds of 37, 38, 38 and 39 to post a team score of 152 and earn a convincing opening-round victory over Berwick.
Ryan Reza led the way, firing a 37 to earn medalist honors. Gianni Bartolucci and Mario Agolino each followed with rounds of 38, while David Homschek’s 39 completed the Patriots’ team score.
Berwick was led by Emmett Scheller, who shot a 38. Grant Evenson added a 42 and Chris Hinkle a 45 for the Bulldogs.
For the No. 1 seed, it was an impressive time to produce some of its best golf of the season.
The victory sends Pittston Area into the overall championship next Wednesday, where the Patriots will face the winner of Dallas and Hazleton Area.
One playoff win down. One championship match ahead.
