FLEETVILLE — Tom Kilmer Field played host to an exciting afternoon of local Little League action, showcasing a mix of masterful pitching and explosive offenses. Fans at the ballpark witnessed two hard fought contests, including a tight defensive battle and a weather shortened power display.
Here is how the action unfolded on the diamond.
Carbondale 5, Wayne Highlands 3
The opening matchup at Tom Kilmer Field proved to be a treat for fans of old school baseball, as strong pitching dominated the day for both clubs. In the end, Carbondale did just enough to edge out Wayne Highlands in a narrow 5 to 3 victory.
Gavin Baron got the nod for Carbondale and turned in a solid performance before turning the ball over to Reed Lesjack. Lesjack was sharp in relief, silencing the Wayne Highlands bats to earn the victory on the mound.
Lesjack also made sure to help his own cause at the dish, driving in a crucial run with an RBI single. Jaydryan Serran and Jacoby Vaughn kept the line moving for the Carbondale offense, each dropping in timely singles to keep the pressure on.
Wayne Highlands did not go quietly, relying on extra base power to stay within striking distance. Elliot Randolph and Jackson Latourette both cracked thunderous doubles to jumpstart the offense. Colt Cousins, Andrew Jos, and Tanner Yanacek also reached safely with singles, though Wayne Highlands ultimately left a few too many runners stranded against Carbondale's tough relief pitching.
Carbino/Archbald 9, Christy Mathewson 1
The second game of the twin bill saw Carbino / Archbald flash its offensive muscle in a 9 to 1 victory over Christy Mathewson. The contest was cut short after four innings due to incoming weather, but Carbino / Archbald maximized its time at the plate.
Mason Buczynski was the star of the show, delivering a true dual threat performance. Buczynski controlled the game from the rubber to pick up the win, and he was equally unstoppable at the plate, turning in a perfect 2 for 2 performance.
The defining moment of the game came courtesy of Elio Brunori. After Enzo Nicastro and Rocco Forgione reached base with singles, Brunori crushed a towering three run home run to blow the game wide open. Silas Wilson added to the hitting parade with a single of his own to keep the momentum squarely in Carbino / Archbald's dugout.
Christy Mathewson struggled to find a rhythm against Buczynski's dynamic pitching. Cooper Hickok provided the brightest spot for the lineup, breaking through to collect his team's lone hit of the afternoon.
