Freeland 11-12 All-Stars secured a 3-1 victory over Mountain Top 12 All Stars in a closely contested matchup on Wednesday. Both teams demonstrated strong pitching performances throughout the game.
Kavon Cottle delivered a dominant outing for Freeland, striking out 16 batters over five and two-thirds innings. Cottle also contributed at the plate, hitting a double that scored a run in the first inning. Dom Marchetti added a double and scored a run for Freeland, while Cash Gavinski picked up an RBI and recorded the save on the mound.
Mountain Top saw Eli Metz go five innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four. Metz also had a hit at the plate, as did Jacob Nealon.
Freeland got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Tanner Peruchetti walked and Cottle doubled down the left field line, each driving in a run. Freeland extended its lead in the fifth inning with Cash Gavinski’s RBI single.
Freeland is scheduled to play at Valley East on Friday. Mountain Top hosts Hanover.
