COVINGTON TWP. — North Pocono took care of business on its home court Monday night, sweeping Dunmore 3-0 in a Lackawanna Division I girls volleyball matchup highlighted by the Lady Trojans’ annual Dig Cancer Pink Game.
North Pocono entered the match having established itself as one of the stronger teams in the area this season, and the Lady Trojans continued that strong play against Dunmore. They controlled the match on the way to a straight-set victory and another important win during the conference portion of their schedule.
The victory also gave North Pocono a season sweep of Dunmore. The Lady Trojans won the first meeting between the teams 3-1 in September before putting together an even more decisive performance in Monday’s rematch.
But Monday night represented much more than another result in the standings. North Pocono’s annual Dig Cancer Pink Game brought players, coaches and the community together to recognize and support those whose lives have been affected by cancer. The event provided a meaningful backdrop to a night of competition between two Lackawanna League programs.
North Pocono has put together an impressive stretch this fall, including an eight-match winning streak earlier in the season, and Monday’s sweep provided another example of the Lady Trojans’ consistency as the postseason approaches.
For North Pocono, it was a successful night both on and off the court — a 3-0 conference victory over Dunmore combined with an opportunity to use high school athletics to support a cause much bigger than volleyball.
