North Pocono Rolls Past Honesdale, 42-0

North Pocono put together a dominant performance Friday night, cruising to a 42-0 shutout victory over Honesdale behind a fast start, a strong defensive effort, and big plays on both sides of the football.
The Trojans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard after receiving the opening kickoff. Henry Wolff returned the kick to the North Pocono 29-yard line before Chase Zimmerman broke loose for a monster 45-yard run, putting the Trojans deep in the red zone. A short touchdown run by Wolff finished the opening drive, Youngblood added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
The North Pocono defense struck immediately on Honesdale’s first possession. Cole West intercepted a pass and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown, giving the Trojans a 14-0 advantage after another successful Youngblood extra point.
Honesdale struggled to move the football, and North Pocono’s defense continued to apply pressure. The Hornets were stopped near their own 21-yard line before a bad snap sailed out of the end zone for a safety, extending the Trojans’ lead to 16-0.
North Pocono’s offense continued its assault on the next possession. Starting at the Honesdale 36, Wolff broke free for a 29-yard touchdown run, with Youngblood again converting the extra point to make it 23-0.
The Trojans added another score in the second quarter. After Honesdale stalled at its own 38, North Pocono connected on a big pass from Zimmerman to West, covering 38 yards and setting up a 17-yard touchdown run by West. Youngblood’s extra point made it 29-0.
North Pocono’s defense continued to make plays, with Zimmerman batting down a pass on fourth down to end a Honesdale drive. The Trojans then marched from their own 34, highlighted by another big West run, before Zimmerman found West for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good, leaving North Pocono with a 35-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw more of the same from the Trojans.
Honesdale received the second-half kickoff but North Pocono forced a turnover, and Nate Gola recorded a sack on the Honesdale quarterback. After the ensuing exchange of possessions, North Pocono added another touchdown on a long run by Jayden Taylor. The extra point was unsuccessful, but the Trojans had extended their advantage to 42-0.
North Pocono’s defense continued to keep Honesdale off the scoreboard throughout the third quarter. The Trojans later turned the ball over on downs at their own 33, but Honesdale was unable to take advantage, eventually giving the ball back on another turnover on downs.
With the game firmly in hand, both North Pocono and Honesdale took possessions late into the 4th quarter and elected to take a knee, bringing the contest to an end.

North Pocono’s next opponent will be the Valley View Cougars, with the Trojans traveling to John Henzes Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 18. Valley View will provide North Pocono with another tough early-season test, especially on its home turf. The matchup should be a physical Lackawanna Football Conference battle and a good measuring stick for North Pocono as the season begins to heat up.
