PHILADELPHIA, PA — Crestwood’s Isla Centak continues to elevate her name among the nation’s best.
Competing against an elite field at New Balance Nationals on Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania, the freshman claimed the Freshman Girls Javelin Championship with a winning throw of 119 feet, 8 inches (36.49m). Centak’s winning mark came on her fifth attempt and was enough to secure the national title against competitors from across the United States and Canada.
The performance caps off a sensational freshman campaign that has seen Centak repeatedly rewrite the Crestwood record books.
Earlier this season, Centak established a new school record with a throw of 122 feet, 1 inch on April 21 before breaking her own mark at the District 2 Championships with a toss of 123 feet, 11 inches.
Her success has extended far beyond the district and state levels. Centak currently ranks as the No. 1 freshman javelin thrower in Pennsylvania and sits among the Top 30 female javelin throwers in the state regardless of classification or grade level.
For most athletes, a district title, school record, and national championship would define a career. For Centak, they have all come during her first season of high school competition.
With three years still ahead in a Crestwood uniform, the future appears exceptionally bright for one of Pennsylvania’s fastest-rising track and field stars.
