Dallas showed its postseason fight Monday, storming back for a 4-3 victory over Wyoming Area in the opening round of the District 2 Class 4A playoffs.

The Lady Warriors struck first in the opening inning when Allison Layland drove in a run, and Wyoming Area added to its lead in the third when Addison Gaylord launched a two-run homer to left field to put Dallas in a 3-0 hole.

For much of the night, Dallas was searching for a spark.

They found it in the fifth.

The Mountaineers erupted for four runs in the inning to completely swing momentum. Sydney Haydu worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run before Elliot Rigol followed with a sacrifice fly. With runners aboard and the game hanging in the balance, Lacey Youngblood stepped in and delivered the biggest hit of the night, lining a two-run single that pushed Dallas in front for good at 4-3.

Once Dallas grabbed the lead, Youngblood handled the rest.

The Mountaineers ace went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking none and keeping Wyoming Area off the board over the final four innings.

Dallas finished with 11 hits in the victory and got contributions throughout the lineup. Emma Eick, hitting from the nine spot, sparked the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate, while Annie Osipower and Alyssa Traver each added multiple hits. Youngblood drove in two runs, delivering the clutch swing that ultimately became the difference.

Wyoming Area was led by Josie Kivak, who collected three hits, while Gaylord accounted for two RBIs with her third-inning blast.

The reward for Dallas now becomes an opportunity against the top seed.

The No. 5 Mountaineers will travel Wednesday to take on No. 1 Tunkhannock with a spot in the District 2 Class 4A championship game on the line.

Survive and advance. Dallas did exactly that.
