PITTSTON, PA — If you’re looking for drama, this one had plenty of it.
Dallas Mountaineers Varsity Softball battled from start to finish and came away with a gritty 4-3 win over Pittston on Monday, holding off a late push in a game that never lacked intensity.
The Mountaineers wasted no time making noise. In the second inning, Annie Osipower came through in a big moment, ripping a single that plated two runs and gave Dallas an early spark. It was the kind of hit that set the tone — aggressive, confident, and timely.
From there, it turned into a pitcher’s duel.
Lacey Youngblood took the ball for Dallas and delivered a composed, complete-game performance. The right-hander worked all seven innings, scattering seven hits while allowing three runs (just one earned). She didn’t overpower hitters, but she stayed in control, mixing pitches and keeping Pittston off balance when it mattered most.
On the other side, Pittston’s Samantha Herbert matched that energy stride for stride. Herbert went the distance as well, giving up four runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out four. It was a strong outing, even if the final result didn’t go her way.
Offensively, Dallas leaned on consistency. Alyssa Traver, Emma Fostock, and Elliot Rigol each collected two hits, helping keep innings alive and pressure on Pittston’s defense. Osipower led the charge with two RBIs, proving to be the difference-maker.
But Pittston didn’t go quietly.
Gabby Roman powered the Patriots’ offense with two RBIs, while Herbert and Lili Hintze each added two hits of their own. Pittston chipped away and kept things tight all the way to the final out, making Dallas earn every bit of the win.
In the end, the Mountaineers’ early production and steady presence in the circle were just enough to hold on.
Dallas now shifts its focus to a Friday matchup against Wyoming Valley West, looking to build on the momentum from a hard-earned victory.
