On a night when mental health took center stage, Mountain View and Carbondale delivered a competitive, hard-fought boys varsity matchup that matched the moment.
Carbondale hosted its Mental Health Awareness Night in collaboration with the John Malvizzi Foundation, whose mission focuses on promoting mental health awareness, education, and suicide prevention throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. Led by assistant coach Mike Murphy, along with school administrators, cheerleaders, and the basketball program, the event emphasized conversation, compassion, and the importance of looking out for one another.
The game itself was tight from the opening tip. Carbondale and Mountain View traded momentum through the first three quarters, with neither side able to create real separation. The Chargers matched the Eagles’ physicality and energy, feeding off the home crowd and the emotion of the night.
Mountain View found its edge late.
Hudson Bain rose to the moment for the Eagles, finishing with a game-high 16 points while making key plays down the stretch as Mountain View pulled away in the fourth quarter. Jordan Jagger added 10 points, providing steady scoring support as the Eagles closed out a 42–35 road win.
Carbondale stayed within striking distance thanks to Jack Moran, who led the Chargers with 15 points, attacking the rim and keeping the game within reach until the final minutes.
As the final horn sounded, the scoreboard told one story, Mountain View 42, Carbondale 35 but the bigger takeaway lingered well beyond the result. Green shirts, shared messages, and unified support underscored the night’s purpose: reminding everyone in the building that mental health matters and that no one has to face challenges alone.
SportzWire was proud to be in attendance, capturing a night where the game mattered and the message mattered even more.
