Montrose delivered one of its biggest wins of the season Friday night, edging Mountain View 36 35 in a Lackawanna League Division III girls basketball showdown that came down to the final minutes.
The Lady Meteors trailed for much of the night but stayed within striking distance, leaning on defense and timely baskets before closing strong in the fourth quarter. Montrose outscored Mountain View 14 6 in the final frame, flipping a one point deficit into a statement win on its home floor.
Sadie Jones set the tone when it mattered most, scoring 10 of her 12 points in the second half. Her ability to finish possessions and convert in key moments fueled the comeback and energized the crowd down the stretch.
Carley Frey chipped in seven points, while McKenna Kublo added six, giving Montrose just enough balance offensively to overcome a Mountain View team that entered the night as one of the top squads in the division.
Mountain View was led by Emma Thatcher, who poured in 12 points and knocked down three three pointers. Aubrey Sanders and Emily Tricchilo each finished with six points, but the Eagles were limited late as Montrose tightened up defensively and controlled the tempo. Addison Kilmer was held to six points as well, a key factor in the closing minutes.
With the win, Montrose improved to 13-7 overall and pulled even with Mountain View atop the Division III standings at 11-1, setting up a tight race heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
