The district championship atmosphere delivered once again Tuesday night at George Ralston Field as MMI Prep stormed back from a four-run deficit to defeat Susquehanna 5-4 in a dramatic title game showdown.

MMI Prep trailed 4-0 early, but never stopped battling.

The Preppers finally grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Caleb Skuba grounded out to bring home two runs, giving MMI the 5-4 advantage and completing the comeback.

Susquehanna struck first in the third inning, capitalizing on an MMI error while Owen Cook helped spark the rally. The Sabers continued to pressure offensively and built a four-run lead before MMI began chipping away.

Ben Drobnock played a huge role in the comeback effort both on the mound and at the plate. Drobnock earned the win after tossing three and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out two. He also led the Preppers offensively with two hits in two at-bats.

Caleb Skuba started on the mound for MMI Prep, working three and one-third innings while allowing four runs, two earned, with three strikeouts. He also delivered the game-changing RBI groundout in the sixth inning.

Bryce Radzwich and Skuba each drove in a run for the Preppers, while MMI Prep also turned a double play defensively during the win.

Susquehanna received a strong effort from Caedon Stone, who allowed two runs, one earned, over four innings while striking out two. Owen Cook, Gabe Maby, and Drew Hennessey each collected hits for the Sabers, while Cook finished with two RBIs.

The Sabers also showed patience throughout the game, drawing seven walks. Jack Fabrizi and Liam Albert each reached base twice via walks.

But in the end, MMI Prep’s resilience proved to be the difference.

Down four runs in a district championship game, the Preppers never panicked — and by the final out, they were celebrating a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory and a district title.
