Mid Valley Golf Tops Holy Cross 140-150 in First Round Playoff Match

Ian Scanlon shot a 34 to earn match medalist honors and the Mid Valley Spartans used four scores in the 30s to defeat the Holy Cross Crusaders 140-150 in a first round playoff match at Scott Greens.

The format called for six golfers per team to play, with the best four scores counting toward the team total. Mid Valley's low four, Scanlon's 34, Lucas Zuraski's 35, Connor Perna's 35 and Aaron Merrifield's 36, added up to 140 and were enough to outpace Holy Cross regardless of the team's other two scores.

Holy Cross countered with Pete Boles carding a 36 and Jackson Bohanski shooting 37, but the Crusaders could not match the Spartans' depth at the top of the lineup. Brandon Moran added a 38 and Joe Yusinski shot 41 for Holy Cross, which finished with a team total of 150.

Scanlon's round included birdies on the first and fourth holes, the only Mid Valley golfer with two on the day. Zuraski birdied the second hole and Merrifield also birdied the second. Perna recorded birdies on the fourth and ninth holes.

Holy Cross had birdies scattered throughout its lineup as well. Yusinski and Bohanski each birdied the third hole, Josh Toolan birdied the seventh and Boles birdied the eighth to go with his team low round of 36.

Rounding out the scoring for Mid Valley, Colin Burns shot 43 and Logan Zelinski shot 42, though neither score factored into the team total under the best four format. Holy Cross's Adam Zaleski shot 43, also not counted toward the team score.
