Montrose Survives Shootout, Stays Perfect in Conference Play
The undefeated Montrose Lady Meteors continued their impressive conference run Thursday night, outlasting Carbondale Area 16-8 in a game that featured momentum swings, big innings, and nonstop action on the bases.
Montrose wasted little time getting started, grabbing an early 2-0 lead in the opening inning after Kyleise Kublo grounded out to score a run and MycKenna Kublo ripped an RBI double down the right field line.
Carbondale answered immediately. Alexis Borosky launched a home run to right field in the bottom of the first to give the Chargers a 3-2 edge, and Carbondale extended the lead in the third behind RBI hits from Riley Pietrowski and Amethyst Kealoha-Silva.
But the Meteors kept coming.
Montrose flipped the game back in the fifth inning, capitalizing on patience at the plate and timely hitting. Allison Jennings and Alyse Legg each drew RBI walks before Anna Evans delivered a two-run single to put the Meteors ahead 6-5.
Then came the knockout punch.
Montrose erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning to completely break the game open. MycKenna Kublo drove in a run with a single, Cara Evans added a two-run knock, Libby Bush doubled home another, and Alyse Legg capped her huge night with another RBI single as the Meteors poured it on late.
Legg led the charge offensively with four RBIs, while Evans collected three hits and MycKenna Kublo added three RBIs of her own. Montrose’s aggressive style was on full display throughout the night as the Meteors swiped seven bases and forced constant pressure on the Chargers’ defense.
In the circle, Anna Evans settled things down in relief, striking out five across four innings to help Montrose regain control after the early back-and-forth battle.
Carbondale battled offensively with 10 hits of its own. Borosky finished with three RBIs, while Abby Carachilo and Kealoha-Silva each recorded multi-hit games in the loss.
The win keeps Montrose unbeaten in conference play as the Lady Meteors continue building momentum heading deeper into May and the playoff season.
