Medalist William Evans Fires 34 to Spark Lackawanna Trail Past Montrose

Lackawanna Trail defeated Montrose 162-172 in a Lackawanna League boys golf match on August 28, 2026, at Canoe Club.
Playing on the par-30 course where the best four individual rounds determined the team total, Lackawanna Trail secured the victory behind match medalist William Evans, who carded a low round of 34 that featured a birdie on the sixth hole. Jimmy Phillips contributed a 42, while Josh Fowler and Mac Filipek each recorded rounds of 43 to complete the counting scores for Lackawanna Trail. Aaden Cobb added a 44, and John Kearney shot a 46. In alternate individual play, Ashton Thiel shot a 44 and Braden Staffaroni registered a 50.
Matt Dovin paced Montrose with a team-low score of 39, highlighted by a birdie on the third hole. David Newman and Eddie Leonard each finished with rounds of 44, Victoria Kipar turned in a 45, and Corbin Purtell finished with a 55.
