DALLAS, Pa. — Keira McCaffrey is making her presence felt at the net this season, with the Misericordia standout earning national recognition as one of the top blockers in NCAA Division III volleyball.

McCaffrey was recently ranked fifth in the nation in individual blocks per set, while Misericordia ranked 24th nationally in team blocks per set, highlighting a Cougar defense that has become increasingly difficult for opposing attacks to navigate.

The national recognition is another achievement in what has become an impressive collegiate career for McCaffrey. The 6-foot-1 middle hitter was named the 2025 MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year, establishing herself as one of the conference’s premier defensive players at the net.

Her impact has continued on both sides of the ball this season. Through 54 sets, McCaffrey has recorded 74 total blocks, an average of approximately 1.37 per set, while adding 108 kills, a .324 hitting percentage and 30 service aces.

McCaffrey has also earned MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season, demonstrating that her influence extends well beyond her ability to block. Her combination of length, timing and production has given Misericordia a difference-maker in multiple phases of the game.

Recent performances have only strengthened those numbers. McCaffrey recorded eight blocks during Misericordia’s five-set battle with Lynchburg, continuing a season in which she has consistently created problems for opposing hitters.

Individual statistics tell only part of the story. Misericordia’s place among the nation’s better blocking teams reflects the Cougars’ collective presence at the net, with McCaffrey playing a significant role in that success.

For a player who entered the season as the reigning conference Defensive Player of the Year, the standard was already high.

Now, McCaffrey is taking that production to the national level.

With plenty of volleyball still to be played, she and the Cougars will have an opportunity to continue building on an impressive start to the season.
