Selinsgrove, PA -

In a game that had all you could ask for, Danville topped Selinsgrove, 67-61. Mason Kingery neared his career high with 34 points, including seven three-pointers. A quarter-by-quarter recap can be found below.

Q1 - (16-14 Seals)

Danville scored the first four points of the contest and held Selinsgrove scoreless through three and a half minutes. Xaivier Jackson got Selinsgrove on the board with a layup followed by a transition dunk, which kick-started the Seals offense. The first quarter carried on and Xaivier Jackson continued to make an impact scoring and passing the basketball. At one point, he reached Chase Carter to tie the game at nine. Selinsgrove led 16-11 with just a few seconds left in the first quarter, and suddenly Mason Kingery drilled a corner three-pointer right Infront of a loud Selinsgrove student section, cutting the Seals lead to two.

Q2 - (30-29 Seals)

The first minute of the second quarter consisted of lots of steals from both sides until Mason Kingery knocked down a mid-range floater. The Seals' response was a euro-step layup from Xaivier Jackson (one of many). Halfway through the quarter, the game was tied at 20 apiece, and then Mason Kingery knocked down two consecutive treys to give the Ironmen a six-point lead. The Seals then put together their largest scoring run of the night, where Julian Torres, Noah Walter, and Xaivier Jackson all combined for ten points (30-26 Seals). This time Casey Mills knocked down a three-pointer at quarter's end to prevent Selinsgrove from "potentially" pulling away.

Q3 - (43-42 Seals)

Both sides came out of halftime hungry as ever which paced for an even third quarter. Before the start of the third quarter, Mason Kingery had already had 16 points, and Xaivier Jackson led the Seals with 14. jake Cool opened the quarter with a floater in the paint for Danville. From that point on, numerous players from both sides had scored and many fouls were committed. The fouls led to a variety of free throw attempts. Xaivier Jackson made four free throws during the quarter. Size was the name of the third period, as many of the points had come from the paint. The Seals yet again carried a one-point lead into the next section of play (Q4).

Q4 - (Result?)

Danville opened the final quarter hot as the sun with four three-pointers. Mason Kingery knocked down three-straight before Casey Mills added the fourth. This put Danville up by 11. Kingery mentioned postgame, "My teammates, they find me, they get me open, all the time - I can't thank them enough." Kingery was certainly not wrong, but Mac DeFazio finally ended the Seals cold spell with a layup in transition. Jack Piecuch followed Mac's scoring with a putback layup. Danville turned the ball over again and Griffin Mutchier fouled out, allowing Selinsgrove Seal, Griffin Parker to shoot foul shots. Parker made both, trimming the Ironmen lead to just five. Collin Geise made the lead six after going 1-for-2 at the free throw line. Mac DeFazio made a three for the Seals, but Casey Mills had responded with a three of his own. The Seals then complied a 6-0 run to go up by three (61-58 Seals). What they didn't know is that they had scored their last points of the game. Selinsgrove Seal, Xaivier Jackson had fouled out and the Seals received a technical foul, awarding the Ironmen four foul shots. Kingery shot all four and made all four (63-61 Danville). The Seals couldn't find a response offensively, and their defensive trap (press) wasn't working. They had no choice but to foul, and Jake Cool made both free throws for Danville. The Seals were forced to throw up a couple of late shots, and none of them were close to going in. Danville's Mason Kingery scored during the final seconds in transition, plotting for a 67-61 finish in favor of the Ironmen.

Postgame -

I had the pleasure to meet with Mason Kingery after the conclusion of the game to speak on his electric performance and historic milestone (1000 career points). I asked him several questions, but the key points are stated below.

On reaching 1,000 points -

Mason stated, "It feels good, I've been working for it for a while. Kingery later added the focal point to reaching 1,000 points, "Getting your routine down. You don't just want to come into the gym and start shooting three's right away... You want to do what you need to do". He inferred that there is more to basketball/training than just shooting threes. He mentioned that working on form, passing, and dribbling are key contributors as well.

Kingery's best response of the night came from my final question. I asked him what his message would be to the younger generation that hopes to one day reach 1,000 career points.

Mason stated, "I would tell them to trust their coach", Later adding, "Always trust your head coach... It's the best thing you can do. Always get shots up, always get with the guys, and never take anything for granted".
