Sunbury, PA -

This evening the Lewisburg Green Dragons took care of business against the Warrior Run Defenders to advance to the PHAC Final.

Short Recap -

Lewisburg jumped out to a quick start, outscoring the Defenders by nine in the first quarter. Cooper Mowry exploded for 13 in the quarter, and Cortland Michaels scored four. Michaels also picked up two crucial rebounds during the quarter. A promising 10-0 helped the Dragons build their first quarter lead. Ethan Balzer had scored eight points for the Defenders during the first.

Warrior Run fought hard during the second quarter, cutting the lead to just six at halftime. Landon Polcyn and Ethan Balzer knocked down crucial three's for the Defenders. Aiden McKee made a total of four free throws during quarter, in addition to his seven rebounds for the half. The first-half went back and forth, but Warrior Run's three-point shooting drew them closer to the Dragons.

The third quarter began with strong defense from both sides before Carter Sheesley knocked down a trey to cut the Green Dragons lead to three. During the third quarter, Cortland Michaels handled most of the scoring load for the Dragons, as he scored nine of their twelve points. The quarter finalized with a free throw from Michaels (46-39 Green Dragons),

The fourth quarter was played similar to the third, and the Green Dragons slowly put Warrior Run away. Ethan Balzer opened the quarter with a layup, but Cooper Mowry responded with a Green Dragon three. The Green Dragons played the entire game responding to what Warrior Run did, and it allowed them to stay in front for nearly the entirety of the game. Cortland Michaels added eight points to his stat line during the fourth quarter, four of which came from the free throw line. Late scoring efforts from Ethan Balzer and Aiden McKee were not enough, which rounded out the basketball game, finishing 67-61 in favor of Lewisburg.

Leon Tucker II

Postgame -

I met with Lewisburg head coach Leon Tucker after the conclusion of the game. Some key highlights to our conversation are italicized below.

When asked about what he saw out of his team tonight, he responded, "Toughness. Toughness and Grit". Coach Tucker was really happy with the way his team played.

Tucker later stated, "We knew we could play with them. We hung with them already". Tucker was referencing his loss to Warrior Run in December and how his team knew they could get a win during the rematch.
