Tunkhannock held off Wyoming Area 37 to 35 in a tightly contested girls basketball game Saturday, with late execution proving to be the difference in a matchup that stayed close from start to finish.

The Tigers set the tone early, opening the game with an 11 to 5 advantage after the first quarter by pushing the pace and capitalizing on open looks. Wyoming Area responded in the second quarter, tightening defensively and finding rhythm offensively to outscore Tunkhannock 13 to 9 and pull within two at the break.

Both teams traded baskets coming out of halftime as neither side was able to create separation. Wyoming Area continued to chip away in the third quarter, cutting into the deficit with balanced scoring and strong work on the glass. Heading into the fourth, the game remained within reach for either team as possessions became more deliberate and every basket carried added weight.

Wyoming Area briefly grabbed the lead midway through the fourth quarter when Lila Price scored with 4:05 remaining to give the Warriors a 35 to 34 edge. From there, the game slowed to a half court battle as both defenses tightened and opportunities were limited.

Tunkhannock answered in the final moments behind Aliyah Faux, who delivered the decisive basket with 22 seconds remaining to put the Tigers back in front 36 to 35. Wyoming Area had chances to respond but was unable to convert, and Makenzie Gregory stepped to the line with two seconds left and made one of two free throws to extend the lead and seal the win.

Faux led all scorers with 15 points, consistently providing offense in key moments. Elizabeth Moore added nine points, while Gregory finished with six, including the final point that proved to be the margin.

Wyoming Area was paced by Addison Gaylord, who recorded 14 points and six rebounds, and Londyn Sobeck, who added 11 points and seven rebounds. The Warriors showed strong composure late and remained within one possession until the final buzzer.

Both teams executed defensively down the stretch in a game defined by effort, discipline, and timely plays, with Tunkhannock doing just enough in the closing seconds to come away with the two point victory.
