Knights Flip the Script in Rivalry Clash with Dallas
Dallas Lady Mountaineers stormed out of the gates Thursday night at Back Mountain Little League, building a 5-0 lead in the opening inning before Lake-Lehman answered with one of its grittiest comebacks of the season.
Dallas capitalized on miscues early as an error, a sacrifice fly from Lacey Youngblood, doubles by Elliot Rigol and Cadance Hudgins, plus a dropped third strike helped Dallas seize momentum immediately.
But the Knights never panicked.
Lake-Lehman chipped away inning by inning before Hayley Wallace delivered one of the game’s biggest swings in the fifth, ripping a game-tying single down the left field line after a lengthy six-pitch battle at the plate to knot the score at 6-6.
An inning later, the Knights finally grabbed control for good. A fielder’s choice off the bat of Ella Andrews plated the go-ahead run before Julia Sholtis added insurance with a groundout to push the lead to 8-6.
Hannah Chipego once again delivered in the circle for Lake-Lehman, striking out 12 while allowing five hits across seven innings. The JMU commit continues to cement herself among the state’s elite arms and now sits just three strikeouts shy of the all-time WVC record.
Lake-Lehman’s lineup produced 11 hits on the night, with the bottom half creating major problems for Dallas. Hayley Wallace led the charge with three hits, while Gracie James and Ella Andrews each drove in two runs. Brooke Reilly and Addi Butler also added multi-hit performances as the Knights aggressively attacked the basepaths with six stolen bases.
Dallas showed plenty of fight despite the loss. Elliot Rigol collected two hits and scored twice, while Youngblood, Madeline DeSanto, Alyssa Traver, Hudgins, and Rigol each drove in a run.
The rivalry atmosphere matched the intensity on the field, with momentum constantly shifting before Lake-Lehman’s late surge ultimately proved to be the difference.
