Joey Chestnut Devours 100 Pierogies, Sets PNC Field Record

MOOSIC — The goat of competitive eating brought his appetite to PNC Field Friday night.

18-time Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest champion Joey Chestnut made a special appearance Friday, Aug. 7, as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders hosted the Rochester Red Wings.

Chestnut opened the night by taking the mound for the ceremonial first pitch, but the main event came when the competitive eating legend stepped up for the RailRiders’ Pierogi Challenge.

And in typical Chestnut fashion, he delivered.

Chestnut demolished 100 pierogies, approximately seven pounds worth in just 4 minutes, 26 seconds, setting a new PNC Field record in front of the Friday night crowd.

The appearance also included a pregame meet-and-greet, giving fans an opportunity to meet one of the most recognizable names in competitive eating.

Sportzwire’s Mikey Eckrote also caught up with Chestnut during his visit, welcoming the 18-time champion to NEPA and making sure he left PNC Field officially Wired with a Sportzwire wristband.

From hot dogs on Coney Island to pierogies in NEPA, Chestnut added another record-setting performance to his résumé.
